Please help me settle a debate I'm having with some co-workers. For some reason, I think Terre Haute, IN had a role in the show. They think I'm nuts. Can anyone confirm the significance of Terre Haute? Thanks in advance.

Terre Haute is Buffy, Jody and Cissy's hometown.
Yes, Terre Haute was the kids' hometown. That is mentioned quite a number of times, and there is one ep in which they all go there for a family reunion against Uncle Bill's judgment that going back there would stir up unpleasant memories in the kids. Bill, of course, was right.

This is one screwed-up show. It's much healthier to deal with death head-on than to try to pretend it never happened. What did Bill want the kids to do, stick their heads in the sand and forget about seeing their hometown or other family again? There are some really weird themes running through this series: the kids are always pretending that they're about six; Bill doesn't really want them in the early episodes; nobody realizes that Jodie's new teacher is a dead-ringer for his late mother; French loses the kids in Spain; etc. Very strange.
