It seems like unlike the NHL where game MVP's can come from the losing team if a certain player was the best from both teams, the NBA, NFL, and MLB insist that MVP's must come from the winning team. The NBA awarded its 2006 all-star game to the East's LeBron James who led his team in scoring with 29 points in their 122-120 win over the West, even though it was the West's Tracy McGrady who led all players with 36 points.

Wouldn't it have been funny if there was a few more seconds left on the clock when Carter missed his last dunk attempt, and it bounced right to Kobe, standing 60 feet away, and Kobe jacked up a game winning 3 pointer?

I understand Gasol was still recovering from the flu in this game (which brings up a question of why he played so many minutes), but Garnett was terrible...


As far as the Pistons are concerned, Ben Wallace doesn't belong in an all star game. An All Star should at least be able to draw iron on a layup attempt (and in Carter's case, he REALLY drew iron...twice)... offensively, Ben Wallace makes Dennis Rodman look like Reggie Miller...

Of course, Yao doesn't deserve to be there either, but as long as that's who the fans want, it's ok with me... I've always felt that the all star game was first and foremost a fan's game....

NBA basketball is really bad these days... and why would TNT think that a regular halftime show of talking about the game wasn't enough? Who the hell needs more of American Idol? Couldn't they have interviewed Bill Russell or something? The only guy in history who, as a player, won more rings than he has fingers...

Exactly...if Saunders really, really wanted to have 4 Pistons on the team, then Tayshaun Prince probably would have been a better pick...at least he can play on both ends of the court...

I guess it could be said that Ben Wallace making the all star team is just more evidence of the fact that, other than Shaq, there ain't no centers anymore...

And speaking of the half time show, having them put that American Idol girl on was, of course, idiotic... but having Bill Russell in the crowd and not talking to him kind of reminded me of a few years ago when the Lakers played the Nets in the finals... At one of the games played at the meadowlands, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Willis Reed and Bill Russell were there in the crowd... I was hoping that whatever network was covering the series might take the time to talk to one or more of these guys during the game, or at halftime...after all, they won 19 championships between them (Russell 11, Jabbar 6 and Reed 2). But who did the network (could have been ABC, but I'm not positive) interview at halftime of that game? None other then NBA wanna-be legend Cuba Gooding Jr.! And the announcer was actually asking this idiot's opinion of the game... that's when I knew, the finals, and the NBA, would never be the same again...

In 1988, when the Lakers were trying to become the first team in 19 years to win back to back titles, the halftime guests for the CBS broadcast of Game 7 at the Forum were Bill Russell and Elgin Baylor, both of whom played in that famous 1969 Game 7 in which the Celtics became the last team (prior to 1988) to win back to back titles. Now, them's were the good ol' days!


I think the only way I can watch the finals this year is if San Antonio plays Detroit (I don't think Miami can get there)... unless we have that match up, I'll probably sit this final out...the rest of the teams are just too unwatchable...
