Flirting and giving a compliment are not mutually exclusive. A 60-year old woman can tell a 30-year old man that she likes his shirt or that he's handsome. It doesn't mean she's flirting.

Yep, I agree. It doesn't bother me at all if someone is unattractive and wants to give me a compliment, it's still nice. Just because someone might say that you have nice hair, doesn't mean you have to go out with them later or something.

Agree. And who is to say that a woman with no teeth can't see a handsome man or a beautiful woman and give a compliment? She can see just as well as a "beautiful person". It's not always a come-on. Some people like to point out your beauty or how you carry yourself, doesn't mean they want to go out with you.
