View Full Version : Missouri Serial Killer in the 1990's
ddelta 02-17-2006, 12:55 PM Okay i have done my research on this and can't find anything. In the Angela Hammond case they linked (possibly) her disappearence to two other woman who disappeared in Missouri. Both were convience store workers. Trudy something called her son saying there was a strange man hanging outside the store and when he showed up 10 mintues later she was gone. Her body was found two days later.
Cheryl Hanson locked up her store but never made it to her car in the parking lot. Her body had not been found according to the story.
I can't find Cheryl on any missing person sites...has she been found? Also, was their a Missouri serial killer running around in the early 1990's? I know a lot of people have mentioned Kenneth McDuff but he was all over the midwest...right?? Wasen't Colleen Reed in Texas?
Any updates info would be so appreciated. I pray all the time that Angela Hammond will one day be found and given a proper burial. No parent deserves the right not to know where their child is.
I also wonder whatever happened to her fiance.
buckeyeblogger 02-17-2006, 01:19 PM Has anyone ever asked the boyfriend whether or not the guy in the truck with Angela Hammond looked like Kenneth McDuff?
crystaldawn 02-17-2006, 02:23 PM The pictures I've seen of McDuff didn't look anything like the person described in the pickup truck, but anything's possible.
I think the woman abducted from the convenience store (the one with all the eyeliner) that hasn't been found's name was Cheryl Kinney although I'm unsure how she spells her last name. I thought I came across a blurb about her in an article several months ago speaking about her husband and it said she still hadn't been found. I looked but I couldn't find it again. That is strange as I couldn't find anything about her on the missing websites either. Unless although they've never found her they consider her a murder victim and thats why they didn't put her on there.
Also, was their a Missouri serial killer running around in the early 1990's? I know a lot of people have mentioned Kenneth McDuff but he was all over the midwest...right?? Wasen't Colleen Reed in Texas?
All of Kenneth McDuff's known crimes occurred in Texas, including the December 1991 kidnapping and murder of Colleen Reed. McDuff kidnapped and murdered a Texas woman named Melissa Ann Northup in early 1992, and was on the run soon afterwards. He was caught in Missouri that spring. What this all means is that he entered Missouri a year after Angela Hammond went missing.
Whether or not he had been to Missouri before is anyone's guess.
ddelta 02-17-2006, 02:49 PM Yeah i have never brought the idea that McDuff was involved in the hammond disapperarnce. The guy did not match the pictures of him and like Kane said it seems he went to Missorui more around 1992.
Was there ever a serial killer in Missouri?? Are these the only 3 that occurred. I was wondering if more occurred after the show aired on UM.
Goofyman 02-17-2006, 08:05 PM There was one here in KC this past summer, they found like 5-6 bodies before identifying him. He's in jail, not sure what the situation is at the moment though...
ddelta 02-18-2006, 02:36 PM Okay guys i found some information about CHeryl Kenney...apparently she is still missing :(
This is from a 2004 article
Referring to a case that the police had been working since 1991 McCarty held up a poster with a picture of Cheryl Kenney, who has been missing since disappearing from a convenience store where she worked.
"This case is still an open investigation at the Nevada Police Department," McCarty said. "We will continue to look for her until we resolve the case."
Kenney was last seen at the Quality Convenience Store on E. Austin Boulevard,Wednesday, Feb. 27, 1991, and reportedly failed to come home from work, even though her time card said she checked out at 10 p.m.
Her car was left at the business and her husband, Walter, said there was no one there when he checked at 2:30 a.m. Kenney reported his wife missing the following morning, and although the police received tips on the missing woman, she has never been found.
crystaldawn 02-18-2006, 02:56 PM Impressive find there ddelta, I wasn't having any luck.
That is sad that she's still missing. I wonder if people still think her abductor was the one who abducted Angela Hammond.
ddelta 02-20-2006, 10:33 AM While i would not be shocked if the three disappearences were done by the same guy (as i am sure police know more then we know), i find it wierd that trudy was killed and left to be found on a riverbank, but after all these years Angela and Cheryl never have been found (which makes me think that the killer went through pains to hide their remains). Usually serial killers will use the same MO when killing and disposing of their bodies.
However if it is a serial killer who got all three of these ladies i assume he probably moved on to other states to continue his killings.

He may be deceased or incarcerated (on an unrelated charge).
The latter turned out to be the case for Alfredo Prieto, who is awaiting trial for the 1988 murders of Rachel Raver, Warren Fulton, and Veronica "Tina" Jefferson. He was linked to the cases through DNA, and when he was charged with the killings in 2005, he was on California's death row for a 1990 murder.
dynoguy88 02-20-2006, 12:19 PM The death of Trudy in the Angela Hammond segment was disturbing in the quickness it took for her to be kidnapped. She called her son to report the freaky looking guy staring at her outside the door and when the son arrived at the conveniance store less than 10 minutes later, she was already gone. I often wonder how her son must have felt. If not for a 2 or 3 minute time frame, his mom might still be alive.

You cannot find Cheryl Hanson because the missing lady's name is CHERYL KENNEY. I don't think McDuff did it even though he was eventually captured in Kansas City. I think Larry Hall (or maybe his brother) is a better possibility because he attended CW reenactments all over the place and was in Springfield at the time of the Springfield 3 because there was a reenactment at nearby Wilson's Creek at the time.

Interestingly enough Prieto was caught because of another unsolved case- the so-called Original Night Stalker case. When a suspect (Cornfed Schneider- really too young) in that case who was a convict refused to give a DNA sample, the brother of one of the victims who was a lawyer got a law passed requiring all CA convicts to submit DNA samples. (Cornfed didn't match-- he is famous from the case where the large dog killed a woman in SF even though he wasn't directly involved). Since there are so many it has taken years to get through them all and every so often, as in this example, an old case is solved. Prieto was on CA death row for a murder in Ontario, CA, and otherwise was not a suspect in the DC-area cases. VA is much swifter at executions which is why Prieto was tried there despite his previous conviction for a similar crime with a similar theoretical penalty.Prieto has been appealing his conviction over and over and I think it reaches the Supreme Court in May 2015 (next month). Hopefully he'll be executed soon thereafter as the anti-Cap pun crowd has been pulling out all the stops to hinder Virginia in the administration of justice for a guy who has murdered in a very calous fashion at least six people (two more in VA he wasn't ried for and several more in CA).

The I-70 Killer killed a few in MO near both St Louis and KC. His last victim was near KC but pretty far from I-70 in a congested area. I think later he did some attacks along I-35 in Texas too.
