Moms mabley surprisingly was actually mentioned on a 1993 episode of Fresh prince by carlton-lol
Brian Damage 02-14-2006, 11:56 AM I still never heard of Moms Mabley.
Brieannas21 02-14-2006, 01:43 PM I knew who Moms Mabley was, I remember seeing some clips of her on TV, they were from some old shows she was on. And I remember thinking to myself, how is she telling jokes with no teeth.
And how could you not know who Rosey Grier was, I grew up in a football family, My dad is a football nut.
nerrad 02-14-2006, 02:46 PM Yeah, I knew who all of them were. Reverand Ike is a preacher who used to come on TV. My folks used to school me on Moms Mabley. Rosey Grier was a football player for the Rams, I think.
As for Debby and Rona, I found out maybe a year or two later who they were.

Man Brian....that statement made me feel OLD...VERY VERY OLD!!!
Mom's Mabley was a very funny comdeianne who was known for taking her teeth out in front of the audience! She was a sweet fiesty old lady! I still have one of her albums which was recorded on the early 60's. She did alot of political humour during the civil rights movement. Check out amazon .com or ebay, you MAY see one of her old albums. She was quite funny...sort of like a black Phyllis Diller only a little more sassy...ok...maybe a female Red Fox, since some of her stuff at the time went right over my head at the tender age of 5!

Why are you acting like you are older than me?-lol You only know who Rosey Grier is because of your family watching football.

I finally saw who Moms Mabley was in an old Jet Magazine from 1976

That was an rhetorical question.

Like I said, if it wasn't for your family you wouldn't have known anything about Rosey Grier
Mr. Television 02-14-2006, 08:43 PM The only one I didn't know about was Mabs Mobley.

All that matters is that I know who he is. My husband is a football freak so I'm still around it :)

Nope
kooky12 02-16-2006, 10:45 AM Reverend Ike was mentioned numerous times on Sanford and Son. A TV preacher. I wonder if he was one of those healers ?
hoosierelvisfan 02-16-2006, 01:18 PM I heard of all of them but then again, judging from most of the posts, I appear to be older than most of the other members here. :D I remember watching, for example, Rona Barrett on afternoons during the early 1970's. She did a Hollywood gossip type of show back then. Rosey Grier was very famous back then, of course, because he was a football player but also due to the fact that it became known that Rosey liked to do crafts like knit and crochet and he would do all the talk show circuts like Johnny Carson, Mike Douglas and Merv Griffin, etc. . . . . Now probably somebody's going to say that they don't know who these men are either. :D I seem to remember that Rosey was also on a television show that I remember watching from the late 1960's, early 1970's about a group of rebels who fought the British during the war for Independence. I think it was called the Young Americans or something like that. Maybe I'm getting my shows mixed up but I do remember a series that Rosey Grier was one of the stars in.

I loved watching Merv Griffin. That was one good show!!! The last time I heard abt Rosey Grier was during the OJ trial.
Debby Boone was mentioned because of her hit song. Funny, only because of that would she be mentioned. If she didn't have that song, I wonder who they would have used in place of her name.
