View Full Version : My Name...Shall I Change It?

Chad Michael Murray

...and if so, to what?

Everybody else seems to have the name changing bug these days, and now I'm starting to think about it, too. This morning, I got the third PM so far during my time here at SO from somebody asking me if I'm the real Chad Michael Murray. The first time I figured it was just a fluke, the second time I thought it was a coincidence, but now the third time around...

Well, I just feel bad, having somebody think I could be him and taking the time to write, then having to disappoint that person by writing back and trying as nicely as I can to tell them that I'm not him afterall.

So, I just thought I'd see...what do you guys think? Should I change my name? And if so, what funtastic ideas do you guys have for me?

Thanks for your help!

-Matt

The name change thing is getting a bit out of hand.

You're a new member Chad, stay with your current username a bit longer.

Well, in their defense, I believe they were all from foreign countries (with possibly the exception of the first one, I can't really remember) so I just figure maybe they think since this is an American forum, maybe the real Chad could be here.

Anyway, it makes me feel pretty bad to have to write them back and say I'm not him, like I'm crushing their dream or something. :(

Yeah I think they should delete some of those people who haven't posted in 2-3-4-5 years. I'm sure there is a reason why they dont.

I agree, if a member hasn't been here in over 2 years, then they should be eliminated. Odds are they aren't coming back after two years, and if they do, they have to re register. And if their old username was taken by somebody else, tough cookies.

I think there is an underlining reason why those non existant members remain. I think it looks better if the site has a higher total number of people registered. I could be wrong, but I think that may be a reason.

Heyyyyyy!! Cousin Blaiw bumped up my old thread!! :rotflmao:

Also, going back and looking at this thread...I'm aware that a certain other member believes that I made up the thing about people thinking I was CMM just for 'attention'.

I do still have 3 of the PMs in my inbox, but anyway, I just went to go look at them again and realized that NONE of those members have ever posted here. At all. They all have 0 posts.

Now I just wonder if somebody was trying to mess with my head!

Ditto. Just when people have a certain username, I get used to it. As I get used to the username AND the person, their username and often their avatar changes. At that point, I am back to square one trying to figure out who is who. pissed:

...okay, seriously, is somebody screwing with me on this board?

I got ANOTHER one of those letters from somebody today. And as usual, the person has no posts and has just registered today, which is the same trend with every other PM of that nature that I've gotten, after looking back at them again.

Oh, that is fishy. I would just PM the admins/mods to check out the IP address of these "users." It seems a little odd based on that pattern you have been noticing....

I'm thinking these people googled the name "Chad Michael Murray" and there was a link that came to this site.

And then in order to try and directly contact SO's CMM-thinking it might be the real guy- they signed up and PMed him.

Chad Michael Murray
03-09-2006, 06:19 PM
That could be, but I mean...they'd have to search really hard for that, since if you do a search on him there are tons of fansites that come up first. They'd probably have to dig really deep.

I think I'm just going to have somebody I trust check them out for me, just to see if there's any relation.
