When Nell was knocing on the door to give her neighbor her mail, I thought it was going to be Rosie who opened the door since it was a episode during the NYC era

The youngest daughter was in the last season occasionally. She moved to NY to go to college and visited Nell a few times, and Nell also visited her at school--- Those were the only episodes that I liked. The Lawrence boys were just too cutesy and fake and Samantha was a lot more interesting.

Of course, Grandpa was also in the last season too, occasionally.... he sold the Chiefs old house, and moved to NY too. He popped up every episode or other episode and towards the end of the series, Nell's mother, Mama Mabelle ALSO moved to NY.... what an amazing coincidence.


HOWEVER, the other 2 daughter NEVER appeared at all, and they were only mentioned in the Christmas episode when Nell sent Samantha home to California for Xmas, with presents for the girls and the new baby.... you would think that since they had been so close for years, that Nell would have visited them sometimes.

The last season was a total mess. The entire dynamic of the show was Nell and the girls, and when they lost that and focused on the Lawrence boys, it became just another generic 80s sitcom.

a real shame, because Nell Carter had so much comedic potential

Yeah in the last seasons of GB, Sam was off at college, Katie was up in Northern California she became a buyer at a boutique I believe and Julie and Jonathan moved up to Northern California as well because of Jonathan schooling. I think I'm the only person who actually liked the last season of GB. I just hated the season finale

Nell would never have moved so far away from the girls, she would have stayed in CA and helped raise baby Nell and kept herself busy

when the show moved to NYC it went from being a warm comedy to a silly show that had no idea what it wanted to be

i mean, the cast changed from episode to episode

sometimes Sam was inthe credits, sometimes not, Paul Sands was added for no reason, Rosie O Donnell as the neighbor was added for no reason, they brought back Mama Mabelle and Grandpa and gave them little to do, and they even put Sams Professor in the opening credits for 2 episodes (maybe a possible spinoff?)

some episodes focused on Nell and problems at work, others focused on Nell and Addys interaction, others focused on the dreadfully cutesy Lawrence boys.... the show had no idea what it was doing and it showed

too bad, i actually liked the show at first

Dolph Sweet was great and the early eps were fun, but it ended with a whimper :(

So true. I hated Joey Lawrence sooo bad. A fun show was ruined by the "need" to add obnoxious small children to the cast. I will only buy Seasons 1 and 2.

Why would Nell stay near the girls? They were all adults and moving on with their lives. They couldn't stay home for ever. Also why would Nell help raise baby Nell, that was Julie and Jonathan's responsibility, they were married. Nell's job was done once the girls became adults, she was like their mom, but like all mothers you have to let go sometime.

I didn't like Joey on the show at first but he grew on me. I don't think that they should have added Matthew to the cast, but he wasn't really seen a lot.

When the girls got older and left the show it should've focused more on Nell's life and Nell meeting new people and her misadventures with Addy. I would always prefer interesting adult characters instead of cutesy child characters that are supposed to make us go "aawwwwww." The Lawrence brothers destroyed the show. They were never needed at all.

I agree with that. The producers kept changing the show around, moving time slots...they murdered this show. In a final act of desperation they fired the girls, moved Nell & Addy to New York and added (another) Lawrence boy (probably for the "cute" factor).

That for the final season they would have had this happen

1. No Lawrence boys! Joey moves away with his dad and they live happily ever after!

2. Nell stays in CA, living in the house with Grandpa (john hoyt was so funny) and helps the girls as they go out on their own.

they could have had Julie and Jonathan need help and advice from Nell, and she helps babysit and so on

they could have focused on Nell not knowing what to do with out the kids around

they had so many good ideas, BUT once the show moved to NY they only had like 1 or 2 eps that were any good at all
