I've been hearing so much about this emo business lately, and no matter how hard I try, I can't figure out what the heck it is. Is it clothes, is it a dance, is it a song, is it the little brother of Elmo, what?? I feel so totally out of the loop, because I'm always the last one to figure out what these fads are all about. Usually, by the time I find out, the fad is already over. LOL!!

Also, can anyone let me in on what it means when someone says you've been "owned"? In the last couple months, Iv'e been hearing this term alot, and sort of have an idea of what it means, but can't completely understand it. Can you give me an example of someone being "owned".

One final thing, what is Numa Numa?? I know I sound like a total dork asking these questions, but any info you can give me on these things would be appreciated!! Thanks!!

I was also going to also give my own definitions of what you asked about. But emo is so debatable, and I still can't make up my mind what it's about so I didn't even bother. I just looked it up on urbandictionary.com, and people can't decide there either. For emo, you can also get an explanation here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emo

I had no idea what Numa Numa was so I couldn't explain that. The only one I really could tell you about was "being 'owned' " but I thought you could just look that one up too. Or get answers from others on here.

Thanks Cashodeen!! I appreciate you finding those links for me. I guess I could have just found this info myself, but what can I say, I'm lazy. Anyways, thanks again for your help.

It's nice to see you posting by the way. I haven't seen you around here much recently, so it's nice to know you're still around!! :)

Not lazy at all. Sometimes it's fun getting people's own defintion of things instead of just relying on links. I'm actually the lazy one because I can't really define emo, lol.

Oh thanks! I didn't think anyone would notice. I don't post like I used to. And I was even gone for over a year.

Oh, people noticed, believe me. Iv'e mentioned you in a few P.M.'s, and Iv'e had atleast 4 people say to me that they miss you. You were even mentioned a couple times on the sitcom's online members game thread I started, so I know you've been on people's minds. Here's where you were mentioned:

Brad--I'm not sure whether or not you found out yet, but I'll just tell you that being 'owned' is like being 'burned'.

BURN! :rotflmao:

emo - short for "emotional"; it's a little hard to explain the non-stereotypical definition but it generally describes someone who is very depressed, lonely, usually suicidal, has little or no self-esteem, cuts themself, etc. it's morphed into a stupid trend. i've come to realize that i fall under the category personality-wise and emotionally but i don't really like calling myself that; the same thing applies to my best friend. the music sucks, by the way. bands like party at the disco, fall out boy, bright eyes.

owned - proven wrong, defeated, inferior, etc. to "own" someone in an online community is usually to argue with them until they realize that you're right and have nothing to say to defend themselves. also spelled as "pwned" sometimes, just for the amusing purpose of looking like a stupid typo.

numa numa - no idea.

I can't stand emo, every single lead singer of an emo sound sounds exactly alike. What ever happened to the days where rock vocalists really stood out of a crowd? I mean, even in the 90's there was Cobain and Vedder, all of todays All American Fall Out Reject Boys are all the same.

I was disapointed when I finally heard My Chemical Romance after looking at them. I honestly was expecting something along the lines of Nine Inch Nails and wound up with basically Fall Out Boy dressed as goths.

Elmo's Little Brother. That was great.

I made a playlist on my mp3 player called 'emo' and stuck depressing/sad/angry songs in there. I couldn't think of a different word.

Thanks for explaining that to me everyone!! I think I pretty much understand what each of those things are now. I listened to that Numa Numa song, and actually thought it was kind of cool.
