Crystaldawn's "Man in a Coma" thread reminded me of another UM story about an unidentified man in a hospital. This man came in complaining of back pain and ended up dying there (of a heart attack, I believe). He checked in with a fake id and the hospital staff had no idea who he really was. There was an update on this case and apparently the guy was a con artist who travelled the country checking into hospitals so he could get pain meds. Sometimes he would even contact lawyers in the area to try and scam them out of money. It has been a long time since I saw this segment (I don't get to watch the reruns as often as I'd like and I don't have tivo), but I always thought this case was pretty interesting. I'm curious as to how long this guy had been pulling the scam. Did he have a family or ever work a steady job? If he was smart enough to pull off this ruse in several different cities without getting caught, he must have been pretty intelligent. Too bad he didn't put those smarts to better use.
