I've heard from a friend of mine that she went to a suncoast by her and as she was buying a dvd, they told her that they were closing the store because of bankruptcy(sorry if the spelling is wrong).Anyone here hear anything about this?

I haven't heard anything. It might have been just the one store.

Yeah, I heard (from the employees) that all of them were going out of business. Which is really sad because EVERY Tuesday after work, I'd go to Suncoast and buy TV-DVDs. I'm really going to miss it. I had the Replay card and would always get coupons for the DVDs.

R.I.P. Suncoast :(

it's so damn expensive-lol. I haven't bought anything at Suncoast in years. I wonder if that means MusicLand and Sam Goody is going under too. I think its the same company.

I'm not sure about Musicland, but I recall them saying Sam Goody is also going out.

I worked at Suncoast video for a year when I was in college so this is very sad news for me. :(

well, I always found Suncoast overpriced, but the clientele there were usually cool people who were real movie buffs, if anything, it was fun to go in there and start up a conversation with them over some obscure title I was looking for.

Compare that to going to Best Buy where the 17 year old guy who works over in the DVD's is usually clueless when it comes to titles that the average 20 year old has heard of.

Media Play was also under the same company. They all closed. SIGH. That was my favorite store ever.

actually, get your money back (if you deposited any) and go get it from Target, Circuit City or Best Buy, it could be $6-8 less than what Suncoast will have it for during the first week out.

When are they supposed to close up?

My local Suncoast vanished from the mall about 2-3 years ago... I just looked up one day and realized they were closed.

Considering my unhappy experience when I worked for them briefly, I wasn't crying many tears... but that was probably my bad. :(

I live in Springfield, Ohio and would make a day out of going to Media Play in Columbus. That place had the really hard to find DVDs and I just loved it there. Then my family, about a week ago went there and told me that they had gone out. It was horrible. Just thinking about never going there again breaks my heart. Before it was Media Play, that building was Children's Palace (a toy store), so it sort of grew up with me. When I was a kid, it sold toys as I grew older and got into DVDs, it turned into a DVD store.

It's sad to see these two great stores closing, the Media Play by me closed a month ago and Suncoast a couple of year ago. I guess they couldn't take the competition from Amazon, Target, and Wal-Mart. The Media Play near me was closing for political reasons according to the clerk, cause they were making a profit.
