I was just about to ask about this case and, lo and behold, it was on today (Wednesday). I did a search and read some of the old posts - very interesting - but I was wondering if there has been any news about this case lately, like what has happened to him - did he get his memory back etc. ?

I have noticed that some of the people involved in some of these cases post on this website - but not this guy. BTW there is another guy who had amnesia and was sent back to Ohio to face embezzelment charges or something like that. That case was profiled on 48 Hours I think and he was faking it.

Any more info on this Paul Beal case?? Kane or CrystalDawn?

Thanks!

I looked him up on Newsbank to no avail.

Now, I seem to remember some discussion on this board a couple years ago about a report that Beal was in actuality wanted on some kind of larceny or theft charges, and that he was brought back to face them after he was reunited with his mother. I personally did not see any mention of this on UM, I just know what I read here. You might try searching the past posts for more information.

Yes I have this segment recorded off of NBC and although I haven't watched it in a while I believe he was wanted for theft/larceny where he was working and I believe it pertained to stealing a load of groceries. I have noticed that they edit that part out on the Lifetime version. I assume either the charges were taken care of or Paul and his family requested UM edited it. Just my opinion though.

I wonder if Paul ever remembered who he was... I felt SO bad for his mother when he kept telling her, "I don't remember you."

Then again, it's been almost 15 years... I hope he's remembered who he is!

This is interesting. I saw the segment to which Crystaldawn is referring on Echoes of Fear's old page, and that segment is only 2 minutes and 33 seconds long. It said that Beal was taken into custody less than an hour after the story aired by the North Las Vegas police and that he was released shortly after pending resolution of the outstanding warrant. The charge he was wanted on was for stealing a shipment of groceries from a company he worked for in Boise.

The question I don't think they ever answered is what he was doing in Vegas. And what about his knowledge of military bases in San Diego and his ability to dismantle a car engine by himself? I wish they would have given us more information about this case in the update.

I am so fascinated by this case. Did he eventually regain his memory? Can you imagine being able to look back and see yourself (conveniently captured on film for a nation to observe) in such a befuddled state? It didn't sound like anyone went looking for him after he disappeared.

And what about the weirdness mentioned by Mr. Fuji - the phantom memories and skills? What about the completely crazy looking set of friends he acquired during this time (watching the live airing of the segment with him)?

In my own fictional landscape, I could see Paul being a discarded Manchurian Candidate type.

Ha! I've wondered about that myself. I've also been puzzled by his poor choice of eyewear. I mean, when he's on the segment wearing no glasses (or contacts) I think, "Hey! Tyler's kinda hot!" Then in the update when he's wearing those HUMONGOUS glasses, I start having second thoughts.

You have to hope his friends and clothing/eyewear was handed out as part of the 'get back on your feet' program.

I totally thought Tyler was hot. Part of what makes the case so interesting. He seemed so nice and sweet (and hot) and totally tragic.

Did you check out the massive rip in his jeans when he was dismantling the car?

This is so funny... I also thought he was hot (glasses and all  )! I'm really mad I missed this segment again. I only saw it once -- a few months ago -- and was waiting for it to come back on. Wouldn't you know I decided NOT to tape UM that week!! grrrr

Maybe we should start a "Hot Men of UM" thread (like the one about the hot women). There weren't too many, but I'd say APB was one.

You guys are really cracking me up with this "Tyler being hot" thread... I thought he was pretty good looking myself initially but started to rethink it when I saw him with those Harry Caray glasses.

I need to rewatch this segment but wasn't there something about the layers of clothing Paul was wearing when he was found? Like three layers or something?

 This case always makes me laugh, those huge serial killer glasses he was wearing and also those T-shirts that he wore ( the same on both episodes). No offense, I am a guy, but I think you women are very funny thinking he is hot from a straight dudes point of view I think he is kind of creepy looking. (Did anyone notice how he was sweating while watching the TV show with his friends) probably was scared that the grocery police were going to get him or something. The first time that I saw that he was wanted was on the unsolved box set in the extras 150th solve segment. (Handcuffed going to jail with his K-Mart shirt and cookie glasses, maybe the guys in prison thought he was hot too)............

"I DON'T REMEMBER YOU.....I Don't Rember You, uh oh here comes the police, I definatly don't rember you guys.................I don't rember you..........

UF4life, that's kind of a cold-hearted way to look at it. If any of us were being featured on nat'l tv and having to process all the info the operator was telling us ("I've located your mother, your ex-wife, I have your real name....") I think you'd be wiggin' out, too.

If he knew he was in trouble, why would he go on television faking amnesia?? Here, let me put my face for the world to see so I can get caught. No-brainer. I've always felt it was one of the more dramatic moments of the series. You're talking to your own mother on the phone but have no idea who she is.

McFLy121, this case WAS one of the most dramatic of all the live update segments. The other male amnesia case had such a heavy/sad ending - where the wife finally found the husband (fish famer) but he'd sort of turned into another person in the meantime and they went their separate ways.

Poor Paul, going through all the anticipation of filming his segment, hoping he'd find out he was an engineer or pilot with the military (living in San Diego or something) and THEN find out he is a divorced man with an outstanding warrant.

True, Connie. To find your husband and have him tell you "Ehh, I don't remember you and don't really like you" would be a crusher. A tiny part of me always wondered if he might've faked the attack/story just to get out of the marriage, lol. Us guys have done stranger things :)

I thought that too! Maybe we're both cold-hearted. What seemed most freaky was his lack of curiousity about his past (unlike our boy Tyler/Arthur Paul Beal) AND his destination. He was living in Florida - maybe in Key West or something. This is exactly where I'd choose to live if I was dropping out of life. But hey, maybe he had some serious brain damage during the attack and was changed emotionally.

Arthur Paul Beal would be my #1 choice for a guest speaker at an Unsolved Mysteries convention. Perhaps this would be the most awkward convention in history.
