Did anyone have any thoughts on the odd special alert they had on today's 12pm episode?

To summarize breifly: A Canadian police officer got into an altercation with a bicyclist. The guy on the bicycle shot the officer in the head and stole his weapon. After the original broadcast, an anonymous tip led authorities to a shallow grave containing the body of the bicyclist who killed the cop. He had been shot 12 or 13 times, and that murder is now unsolved.

So basically, someone killed the killer. Too weird.

Yeah, I saw this today (and had seen it before), and just thought it was funny how matter-of-fact they were about the slim chance of the murderer's murder ever being solved. It seemed like they were saying, "Well, don't expect us to actually SOLVE the murder of a cop killer," even though there was clearly a witness who knew where the body was. I can't say I'll be losing any sleep either, but it is sort of strange. I'm not really a conspiracy theorist, but it makes you wonder if there's anything more to it.

My guess is that the guy who shot the RCMP officer that was found in the shallow grave was associated with people that had to get rid of him to cover something more sinister. In all likelihood the guy in the grave might have been albe to shed light or turn on activities of others in exchange for co-operation. Drug Operation, Money Laundering, Immigration, ect. Just my thoughts, but plausable.

I saw it, too. "What goes around, comes around."

I remember that segment. As for the cop killer being found murdered (and the fact that his unknown killer has gotten away scot-free), I consider it poetic justice.

Makes me wonder if Bill Wacker was involved somehow...

Good theory. Although it also had me wondering about the possible involvement of a certain Tony Ballesteros...

It's been a long time since I last saw that special alert segment, but after doing some digging, I put two and two together about the name of the murdered Canadian cop and his suspected murderer. The murder victim's name was Scott Rossiter; the suspect's name was David O'Neil.

A profile of Scott Rossiter can be found at a web site called Officer Down Memorial Page (odmp.org). It also has profiles of many other murdered law enforcement officers, including those who featured on UM.

Here's Scott Rossiter's ODMP profile:

I remember that segment, specifically because I believe they had some video footage of the grave (covered up, of course).

I think it could perhaps be extreme irony and coincidence, he kills the cop and then by some random luck he gets gunned down for whatever reason.

However, it could also be possible that someone saw the killing (or the cops found evidence and took him down) and killed him. Or just a random found the body thing.
