Kirk Gibson of the L.A. Dodgers in 1988, Game 1. I am a huge Dodger fan. That moment just makes you realize that no matter how much the chips are down, if you give it your all, you can accomplish a lot!!! It was so damn exciting in our house when that happened. I get goose bumps everytime I see a tape of that moment. Kirk injured, hobbling on that leg, in severe pain and then making that game winning home run!!!!!!!! That is so awesome.:D


The 1978 World Series with the Yankees and the Dodgers. Bob Welch, a rookie pitcher saved the game in the ninth inning by striking out Reggie Jackson!!!!!! Mr. October!!!!! LMAO!!!!

1984 Los Angeles Olympics. Mary Decker, an olympic runner who fell during one of the races when another olympic runner, Zola Budd, collided with her legs (Zola always ran barefooted) and caused Mary to fall and become injured. It was so sad watching Mary in pain and seeing the agony in her face.

Kerri Strug's amazing one legged vault landing, which won the U.S. gymnastics team a gold medal, at the 1996 Olympic games in Atlanta is one that really stands out to me. I don't think I have ever been so nervous watching a sporting event in my life, as I was when Dominique Moceanu fell twice on her vault, and Kerri Strug fell on her first vault, twisting her ankle in the process. How she had the courage to take that vault, and land it perfectly on one leg, still amazes me to this day.

Another one that stands out for me, that I absolutely hated, was when Monica Seles was stabbed in Germany during her match, by some crazy Steffi Graf fan. Thank God she was able to recover from that, and make a semi-successful comeback.

Randy Johnson killing a bird. I'm sure atleast 99.9 percent of the world has seen this video at some point in their lives, but I will never forget when Randy Johnson threw a fastball, just as a bird flew by, knocking off all it's feathers, and killing it. Seeing that birds featherless carcass go flayling 30 feet across home plate was a crazy thing to witness. :lol:

Tracy Mcgrady single handedly scoring 13 points in 35 seconds, to beat the San Antonio Spurs by 1 point in a 2004 game.

The Portland Trailblazers losing a 15 point 4th quarter lead to the Los Angeles Lakers, in the 2000 NBA semi-finals, in a game which would have brought them to the NBA Finals. Damn that team was cursed!! :mad:

Bobby Knight going on a 20 minute tirade, screaming in referees faces, and refusing to leave the court, in a late 90's, or early 00's game.

There are so many more memorable moments I could mention, but I'll share them later.

That they got to the point where the winning run was on base was miraculous. When the ball got past Buckner, that made the moment great.

I was at game 7 of 2003 and I didn't get out of the parking lot for like an hour. The Rangers have a much better shot.

The Play - the annual game between Stanford and Cal that took place in the early 1980s. That was the game where time expired and it looked like Stanford had won, so the marching band walked onto the field, not knowing that the Golden Bears were lateralling the football so the runner was going right into the band. The play-by-play is the best I've ever heard in any sporting event.

My most favorite one is when Tony Gwynn of the San Diego Padres got his 3,000th hit in 1999. He is my favorite player of all-time (and one of the best hitters of all-time as well) and I really hope he gets into the Hall of Fame next year. I remember all the hype in San Diego as he was approaching 3000. He could have gotten that milestone hit the same day that McGwire hit his 500th. But it didn't happen. But no matter what, I am so proud of him and his accomplishments.

The 1980 Winter Olympic US hockey team. I think of it as payback for what the Soviet basketball team did to us 8 years earlier (see below).

I know this is before my time but the 1972 Olympic basketball game between the US and the Soviet Union. All good things must come to an end - the US basketball team was 62-0 entering the Munich games - but it shouldn't have happened that way.

That was one of the most corrupt, and disgraceful things to ever happen in sports. I watched a documentary on it recently, I think it was called: "Two Seconds From Victory", and it absolutely infuriorated me!! :mad: What makes me sickest about it, is how the Russian team refuses to admit that the U.S. team was screwed out of the gold medal, when you know they damn well know that we were. Get over it they say. :rolleyes: I doubt they'd be saying that, had they been the ones who got screwed. That 1972 basketball team deserves their gold medals, just as much as Roy Jones JR. deserves his, which is another one you can put on the "HATED" sport moments list.

Well with Roy Jones, he was fighting for the gold medal in Seoul Korea against a Korean fighter. He clearly beat the guy, and the judges ended up saying the local guy won. Just before the decision was announced, the referre said to Roy: "I can't believe they're going to do this to you." After the announcement was made, the South Korean fighter had a shocked look on his face, and even hoisted Roy up in the air, as he knew he was the true victor. Roy even got an apology from the Korean government or something, for getting screwed over so badly. Later, the judges who decided the fight, admitted that they were paid off to give the Korean guy the victory, and to this day, Roy still hasn't received the medal he rightfully won.

The basketball thing was a little more complicated, and is harder to explain. It had to do with the time on the clock. We were up by one point, and there was like a second or two left on the clock. The Soviets ended up inbounding the ball, and missed there shot, and the game was over. Some high ranking Soviet guy though, started ranting, raving, and screaming, and somehow was able to talk the referees into putting another two seconds on the clock. They ended up throwing a full court pass, shooting it, and winning the game as the final buzzer rang for a second time. To this day, it's never been explained where those two extra seconds came from, or why after the game was over, that high ranking Soviet guy was able to talk the refs into giving them those two extra seconds. It's like those two seconds that gave them the victory, just came out of thin air. There's all kinds of conspiracy theories about it, but I don't think anyone will ever know the truth as to why this was allowed to happen.

I have an unusual perspective on the Buckner thing... I'm primarily a Mets fan, so I love the memory of the ball going through the legs...

But I live in New England, and I root for the Red Sox in the AL, so if I admitted liking it to any of my fellow fans, they'd probably tar n' feather me... :lol:

I have a lot of hate and love, so I will just name a few.

Hate: Game 6 of the 1992 NBA finals between the Bulls and the Blazers. The Blazers had a 17 point lead going into the 4th, and ended up blowing the lead, and losing the game and the series. I was a Blazer fan back then.

Hate: The Redskins losing to Dallas in the 1999 season opener at home in overtime. We had a 35-14 lead, but our defense was bad that year. Rocket Ismail put it away for them.

Love: The Redskins beating Buffalo in 1992 for the Superbowl. This one was sweet because we had been dominate all season. We rolled over everyone that year.

Love: Game 4 of the 1995 NBA finals between the Rockets and the Magic. The Rockets swept the Magic. They were 6th seeded in the playoffs, and ended up winning the championship. Clyde Drexler has his well deserving ring.
