Ok, I love this episode, it's one of my faves, but it irritates the heck outta me the way Claire slams Cliff's hand down when he is bidding on the painting for his office. It gets to $2000 and she slams his hand down so he can't bid on the painting. I get the message that she is not wanting to spend $2000 on that painting that CLIFF WANTS. Why????? It's his money too, he works for it. Just like she didn't need his approval for the painting she wanted, he doesn't need approval either. She spent $11,000 for her painting that was a family heirloom (which is priceless). But if Cliff liked a painting and wanted it, why couldn't he get it??????

They were spending $11,000 so I could see her stopping him from bidding, because they would be shelling out more money than they intended.

she didn't know how much she would end up spending on the painting. PRIOR to her painting, he told Clair he would like to bid on the painting he eventually bidded on. She gave him the ok. then he started bidding. It got to two thousand dollars. That's 9 thousand dollars less than what she was going to eventually bid. He started first. Then it was her turn to bid. They never discussed a limit on either painting, nor did either one say they would stop bidding at a particular time.
