They just showed him - he's #85 on the list. He looks GREAT! He doesn't look sick or nothin'. For those of you who didn't watch it - he said that after GT he wanted to take a break to complete college and do other things in his life. But he's pretty much only done broadway since GT. He still looks good. :p

I didn't see the broadcast yet, but there is video of Ralph on VH1's website where he answers viewers questions. Lasts about a minute and a half. I agree he looks good, but that's probably because some people have him lying on an AIDS deathbed that we expect the worst. Anyway, here's a link. You'll have to follow another link or two to get to the video.

I would say that too if I wasn't offered any acting roles after Good Times-lol

not to be mean, but I thought the same thing as well!!!!!!!!! LOL...seriously, though, it's true, I would say that if not given roles. he still looked awful for his age. I know men who are older than him and don't look so old, so weathered, etc. Not very good looking.

He also mentioned how the writers used him (not in a bad way) to get those messages across abt "black power" "black unity" etc. because they knew a child could get away with that.

Well, the whole "black power/unity" thing sounded cuter coming from a child. I don't think that "boy is a white, racist word" statement would have sounded as interesting if Thelma, JJ, or Willona were the ones saying it.

From reading several articles on this subject, the writers purpose was to use Michael's character because they knew there would be some sort of objection to any adult in the house saying those things. Their reason wasn't for "cuteness" but to make their points (a la Archie Bunker style) without the same bashing that All In The Family took.

My man is 49 and gets complimented all the time for looking great for his age. He looks only 40. He doesn't have those deep ugly creases like Ralph. YUCK!!!! I think alot of men his age are a helluva lot better.

Damn, even John Amos looks hot and sexy for his age; that's sad that Ralph looks sooooo old.

Everyone age differently, we all don't come from the same gene pool. I thought he looked well, he didn't look sick or anything, and he was well groomed.

He doesn't have to be sick to be ugly. And of course no one can age the same as everyone else, but things like smoking and drinking, diet, sun, weather, skin-care, play a part in how well or NOT well one ages. Haywood Nelson, John Amos and alot of actors the same age or older definitely look fine.:D

Yeah, I always thought John Amos aged very well. He's probably taken good care of himself.
Jimmie Walker has aged up bad though.

Maybe he's been through some things that no one knows about. At least he's still going strong.

Maybe it was going out of the country that did it.

What years was he out of the country?

I remember reading that he was in Africa doing mission work or something for a number of years, but not sure exactly when, after GT. Probably most of the 80s.
