View Full Version : Religion Trouble
G-Force Glockstar 02-03-2006, 10:21 PM There's this one boy at my school who's a boy, and he's one of my best friends. He's really nice, sweet, always says the nicest compliments to me, and even buys me stuff!
But there's just one problem......well it's more my parents problem. He's a Satanist. And I'm a Christian. And my family's (especially my parents) won't let me hang out with him just because he's a Satanist! I know it's not good that he worships the devil, but I don't understand why I can't just be friends with him or go hang out with him! I just don't like it that they're judging him on his religion! My mom says it's possible that if I can hang with him, I could end up worshiping the devil, but I doubt that could happen cause Devin (my friend) and I never talk about religions. My mom even wanted to check out his mysapce!!
What do u think? Do u think it would be ok or bad to hang out with him? I can't see why it'd be bad!
Polniaczek033 02-03-2006, 10:24 PM i understand your mom's concern, to be honest. but you can control what you think. i don't think it's wrong to hang out with him.
gilligan fanatic 02-03-2006, 10:25 PM I am sure its just a front. Nobody in there right mind would worship the devil. My guess is they are saying it to look cool even though its not. He is a poser I bet.

Janice 02-03-2006, 10:33 PM Listen to your parents. Some people do worship Satan, and even if it's a front....that's a strange thing to make up. Why anyone would want anyone to even think that sets off an alarm to me.
If it is true, you're young and impressionable, and yes, you could be swayed...especially if you really like him and want to please him.
It's your parent's responsibility to protect you and keep you out of harm's way. They are doing what they think is best for you. Maybe they're being over cautious, but you're only 14, and they know what's best.

yeah those people scare me-lol. At my school those are the people who eat lunch outside do drugs and other dumb ass things. They are the ones who fail every class and don't care. I just don't like them. Girl Meets Worlds classmate is the person I feel bad for. I am sure that guy just goes along with his friends giving him bad advice. He is going to end up like them and I feel sorry. He has a change and is ruing it.
G-Force Glockstar 02-03-2006, 10:36 PM Yeah, I wish I could somehow get him to be Christian.

Don't bother trying that, it never works, I went out with a guy that was an Athiest. He was such a downer and I'm glad we aren't together anymore.

that is one thing I am never going to try to understand. Why would anyone be an atheist? It just does not make sense to me at all.
Hollow 02-03-2006, 10:45 PM I think you could be right because he once said on his myspace that his religion isn't what most people think it is.
that's most likely the case. is he around your age? if so, unless he was brought up as a satanist, i doubt he knows much about the religion anyway.
i understand your mom's religious concerns. judging someone by their religion is wrong, but still much more reasonable than judging them by their skin color or something, because it can affect their ways of life, positively or negatively. it states in the bible to avoid people and things that may persuade you not to have faith in god; if this guy might have a bad influence on you, stay away from him, but otherwise if he's a nice guy who accepts your religious views and doesn't flaunt his own too much, why the hell not be his friend. you guys are kids, religion shouldn't interfere in a friendship.

Yeah, he's 14 too.
Yeah, he never talks about his religion to me and I never talk about mine. I just wish my parents would approve of him more.

It's a very touchy subject, to say the least. Why? Well, peers can be one of the greatest influences in a young person's life. It's never a doubt that our influences on thoughts, beliefs, personality, attitude and finally behavior are always around us in all corners. It is certainly inevitable to avoid this.
Now.... your parents sound like very religious people, so yes, their first instinct is going to be to "protect" you from hanging out with your friend. They would fear you would abandon your current beliefs.
You have said you and your friend never talk about each of your religious beliefs, so maybe you can bring that up to your parents if the forbidding topic comes up. Mention there are other qualities you like about him in a friend. Maybe have your parents meet him so they know there is more than just your friend's "beliefs" that makes your friend as your friend.
In my opinion, there can be separation among our friends' beliefs. I have friends of different levels of religion, and the religion topics never really come up. I am not into discussing religion topics (one of my least favorite subjects), but there are always an array of other topics to be discussed. I don't see what's wrong with befriending people whose certain beliefs do not match up with mine. I used to care sooooo much about that, but I am much more open about having different types of friends of different beliefs. Makes the world more interesting that way.
MaydayMalonesGirl 02-03-2006, 11:22 PM A satanist? What does he do that makes him a satanist? I'm just curious. Either way I don't think it's a big deal considering I don't believe there is a such thing as "satan".

it does not make sense how there isn't a god. I can imagine what it would be like thinking there isn't one. You could do things and no there isn't' a consequence later when you life is done. You could be a rotten and evil person and think nothing will happen. You would have no reason to have faith or believe in things. I just don't get why you would believe in God or an after life. You will leave a pointless life thinking there is no God.
MaydayMalonesGirl 02-03-2006, 11:51 PM he worships the devil/satan as christians worship God
I know what a satanist is, but what does this kid do to worship satan? Does he just say "oh, I WORSHIP THEE SATAN" or did he build and altar or something? I don't understand.

That is pretty ridiculous. I don't necessarily believe in God. How is that going to diasble me from leading a meaningful life?

I just think someone will wast there life knowing that when they die they just die. If your in the hospital sick and dieing I know I will be saying I am going to heaven. If I did not believe in God I would just be saying I am dying and this is the end. Without a belief in God how you can you have a lot of hope. You might have a meaningful life but not as meaningful as it could be.

On the other hand, many believe it doesn't make sense that there IS one. I don't see what doesn't make sense about not paying any consequences when you're dead. You kind of do that while you're alive - and if you don't, that's just how it is. Once in a while, people get away with doing things that they shouldn't. Some people, as hard as it may be for you to understand, prefer to live their life as they see it, based on what they can see, on what they know, and not as if there is some kind of a god and afterlife that they are just assuming exists. I guess it's only pointless if you think it is.

I understand the hope thing, but what if there is no heaven? Then you'd basically be waiting for something that didn't even exist. I'm not going to oppose religion because I know that it's important aspect of a lot of people's lives, I just don't necessarily agree with it. Of course a lot of that probably comes from ignorance. I don't go to church or anything, so I don't know what's it's like to have that religious presence in your life.

they can think whatever they think is right. I will think what I think is right. None of us know what the right one is but I am going to continue thinking there is a God for the rest of my life.

Here was my first thought: Does your mom not think you have a brain? You're 14, and you seem to understand that just because he's a satanist, doesn't mean he's gonna turn you into one. You should tell your parents that: tell them to trust you.
On the other hand, they are just trying to protect you. But if you really don't see this kid as all evil or whatever, then make your parents trust your judgment in picking friends and not letting them influenece you. If not, your mom and dad will continue to question everyone. That's what parents who care about their kids do.

I went to CCD for almost ten years and It taught me so much. I have not gone wrong with religion in my life this far. Chances are my luck will continue for the rest of my life and maybe after. If there isn't a heaven I am not going to feel like a fool. If I did not believe in heaven and spent my whole life saying there isn't one than I would feel foolish.
I think I am done preaching.
Dutabi84 02-04-2006, 12:14 AM I am going to continue thinking there is a God for the rest of my life.

dawsongirl 02-04-2006, 12:16 AM Have someone you're close to die on you and then get back to me if it's possible to think there's no God. Heaven/Hell...who cares? That person whom you loved and relyed on was just killed in a freak accident, or died of some disease too early and now they're gone...never coming back. Not hard to be a little mad and think there's no God then, ya know?
And if you don't understand that, then you're too naive.

You're right, that often happens. People get mad at God or lose their faith entirely. With others, they draw on their faith to help them get through their loss.
I was never a particulary religious person. I was raised Catholic, and I've always believed in God. Yet, when I lost my family in 2002 and 2003 (parents and sister), I started to get religious. I still don't go to church, but I think about God and Heaven. I pray now, whereas I didn't before.
I think I need to believe in Heaven more than ever because I have to believe I'll see my family again.

it would scientifically, only scientifically make a HELL of a lot more sense if god DIDN'T exist. don't you know about the big boom and darwin's theory? i'm a christian; i have questioned my religious beliefs many times, and no matter what i try to set my mind to, i can't help but still feel that god is out there. but that's how way I think. it doesn't mean it's the way the world exists.

yeah i think god is out there somewhere too. although there have been times when i thought "ok so is there REALLY this big place in the sky that we go to after we die?".
but i still think that God is out there somewhere...

from the way i see it: the world is nothing. our physical existence is just a tiny portion of our eternal lives; the afterlife is what's really going to matter. we just think that the world is a big deal because it's all we know, but nothing that happens on it is as significant as we think it is. no matter how much pain we experience or how greatly our lives change, that all will mean nothing in the long run.
Hollow 02-04-2006, 01:30 AM I am just furious that there are people out there with balloon heads and actually let a thought like that enter their head. :(

This could quite possibly be one of the single most ignorant, stupid things I've read in my entire life. Seriously, there should be some kind of trophy awarded for something this moronic.

Let's not be judgemental, okay?
Bottom line - everyone has different beliefs (religion-wise or non-religion-wise), so why should people be judged against their beliefs? It's one of those life mysteries, I guess.... ohno:

Michael [hXc] 02-04-2006, 09:42 AM the way i see it is that this kid you know probably does not really understand what it means to be a satanist, and probably only claims that he is. but i do not know really.
i was once talking to my friend about religion, since he is very religious. and he said "even if there is no God out there, no heaven or hell or anything, i will still live my life by the Bible because it is a better way to live". i never thought of it that way before but it does make sense in ways.
TheGreatPretender 02-04-2006, 09:52 AM Call me goody goody Christian for saying this but the thought of worshiping Satan is downright eery. What positive things would come out of that?

i agree 100% with you. the whole thing sounds kinda creepy and weird but if hes a good friend...then keep him
Fonzarelli 02-04-2006, 02:28 PM Hahahaha Satanists don't worship the devil. They have some weird belief that they should worship theirselves or something along those lines. :D
Fonzarelli 02-04-2006, 02:30 PM Yeah, I wish I could somehow get him to be Christian.
'Cause only Christians are good people...
Fonzarelli 02-04-2006, 02:34 PM that is one thing I am never going to try to understand. Why would anyone be an atheist? It just does not make sense to me at all.
Maybe because we don't want to worship some made-up 'God', who is dreamed up in backwards times when people were looking for an explanation for all kinds of things they couldn't understand because there was no such thing as science. Maybe because the Bible is full of faults (the earth is much older than the Bible states; do we all come from the incest between Eve and her sons since they were the only persons there; no way all those animals could fit in that boat of Noach etc.) and hate (killing, raping etc.) and maybe hust basically because we'd rather think for ourselves instead of following an old book or know-it-all priest. :)
It's not my intention to offend anyone with this post. I have respect for everyone's beliefs, but I just get tired of the 'all atheïsts are bad people'-posts I've seen here too much.
Fonzarelli 02-04-2006, 02:37 PM I just think someone will wast there life knowing that when they die they just die. If your in the hospital sick and dieing I know I will be saying I am going to heaven. If I did not believe in God I would just be saying I am dying and this is the end. Without a belief in God how you can you have a lot of hope. You might have a meaningful life but not as meaningful as it could be.
So, basically, you believe in God because you're afraid of death?
Sharop 02-04-2006, 08:52 PM Maybe because we don't want to worship some made-up 'God', who is dreamed up
I don't think God is made-up, but even if He was, He'd still exist, because I believe in alternate realities/dimensions, or whatever you want to call them, where all of the fictional people are real people. So even if God was a fictional person, there's an alternate reality where He's real!
That also means that in an alternate reality out there, Frasier Crane is real...and Norm Peterson...and Jim Ignatowski...I have to get there somehow, I'd love to meet those people.

No, I don't take any drugs, except for caffeine, when I drink coffee and soft drinks, and medicine when I'm not feeling well. I've never taken any illegal substances.
I'm a little eccentric...I know that idea is a little strange to some...but I like it, I'm sticking with it. I don't think it's impossible that there are alternate realities where all these fictional people exist. I've heard that people can get to alternate realities sometimes when they're projecting (astral projection.) I'm trying astral projection myself, but haven't managed to get out of my body yet. But one of the reasons I want to do it, is so I can go to the Cheers bar and hang out there for a while. I've read that you can do anything/go anywhere/see anyone you want to in the astral realm.
But yes, I believe that somewhere, out there, are alternate realities where all fictional people are real. Maybe if I'm lucky I'll manage to meet Doc and Marty too. :) I'd love to go time travelling in the DeLorean.
Thank you, Mrs Ducky...I know it's a strange theory...but I have quite a few strange ideas.
Fonzarelli 02-05-2006, 01:29 PM Sharop, it's truly a great theory Although I don't believe it's possible, I like the idea.
In my previous post (with the pot) I was just joking. Luckily you didn't react as hostile as 'safety pin'. :)
