these people had to have encountered some native islanders or something it would seem... if the others buried one of their own, and left the island, it seems we would have heard something from them by now...

I love the case of the Sarah Joe. Talk about downright strange. Someone had to bury one of the crew, and I think it might have been the other guys. Maybe they landed on that island and they all perished soon after.
