View Full Version : Lucy/Desi Collection on the way (not the TV series)...
TV DVD Fan 02-01-2006, 05:24 PM The Digital Bits released a list yesterday of upcoming Warner releases, one of which is a "Lucy/Desi Collection", comprising 3 of their classic films for 29.98 SRP. The films are THE LONG, LONG TRAILER and TOO MANY GIRLS and FOREVER DARLING. This will naturally be released very close to the final season of ILL, on May 9th, one week after season six's release.
So, THE LONG, LONG TRAILER fans can rejoice and take a deep breath (as well as fans of the other two films), as its finally coming to DVD!
Hopefully, there will be bonuses (nothing yet though).

gilligan fanatic 02-01-2006, 05:37 PM The Long Long Trailer is the only one I have seen. It was alright but very weird. I don't think this one set I will pick up until I see the other two. I think AMC aired one of them in the middle of the night a few weeks ago.
Kazza 02-01-2006, 06:50 PM What do you mean by weird?
gilligan fanatic 02-01-2006, 07:30 PM like I was thinking of them as the Ricardos and they weren't. They will different characters that's all.
Kazza 02-01-2006, 08:14 PM Yeah, it takes a while to set them apart from the Ricardos. My DD's still think they are. :D
comedyfreak 02-02-2006, 09:57 AM I have The Long Long Trailer on DVD, Forever Darling, and Too Many Girls on VHS. Any word on The Desilu Comedy Hour? That's what I really want.
TV DVD Fan 02-02-2006, 04:10 PM Not yet, be patient- we don't even have out season six yet (not until May).
How do you have a movie on DVD that has never been released before on DVD?

Gregg Oppenheimer (son of ILL's producer/head writer for 5 of its 6 years on the air, Jess Oppenheimer) is not planning on producing "The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour" episodes on DVD; he produced all 6 seasons of ILL on DVD. But he thinks CBS will release them sometime after Season 6 of ILL is released. :)

Sometimes, copies of "The Long, Long Trailer" are auctioned off on eBay (usually just DVD-R copies of the offically-released VHS)...I have a copy of it on DVD myself (from eBay). I've also seen a few websites that sell it on DVD. :)

Very odd, Gregg did a wonderful job with ILL on DVD.

Lodee 02-10-2006, 11:13 AM Well I think they were meant to be similar to the Ricardo's in this movie. Look at the names: Nicky and what was hers? Tacy or something?
TV DVD Fan 02-10-2006, 08:53 PM THE LONG, LONG TRAILER was released in 1949, two years before ILL premiered.

it was? I always thought it came out in 53 or 54 or something, to take advantage of the popularity of ILL. I thought I read that somewhere, once.

It was filmed in the summer of '53 and released in February of '54. :)
treky 02-11-2006, 03:46 AM I THOUGHT it was! So I was right.

I'll say! Best collection I've seen for any TV series on DVD! Seems like each "I Love Lucy" DVD set is hand crafted! Sorry if this was a bit off-topic but can't wait for season 6! :D
TV DVD Fan 02-22-2006, 04:30 PM That's fine, as long as it's Lucy orientated, it don't matter, we all go OT sometimes!

TV Knowledge Fan 06-15-2006, 05:31 PM ....was released in early 1954. It was based on a (now forgotten) novel by Clinton Twiss...but, in addition to the screenplay adapted from the book, Bob Carroll Jr. and Madelyn Davis were also involved in writing additional "bits of buisness" for Lucy & Desi to perform in the picture [to give their screen characters SOME resemblance to their TV characters]- and their names were altered from Twiss' book, appearing as "Tacy" and "Nicky Collini"...sound familiar?
However, in "FOREVER, DARLING" (1956), Lucy and Desi played a married couple who drifted apart from each other...this was NOT what loyal TV fans wanted to see. Most moviegoers were uncomfortable at seeing such a fragile marriage unfold on the big screen, when the very couple they PAID to see were "happily married" on TV. The film WAS good, but the box office wasn't.
This is why the Arnazes never made another theatrical movie together.
