View Full Version : This is why I prefer the Bundys over the Connors
TVFactFan 02-01-2006, 11:13 AM The Bundys didn't have that Dirty LOOK like the Connors. I mean the Connots could have been a little more CLEAN looking and NEAT. The Bundys didn;t have the DIRTY look at all they were just ignorant and didn't care about anything. Kelly Bundy and Peg cared about how they look and even bud, maybe Al was not as nice looking as the other three but he was NEAT. Dan Connor just walked around with that oversized GUT and those SAGGING jeans and that SMALL coat. Roseanne was no better and the same with the children. So I will take the Bundys over the Connors anyday of the week.
BTW: The connors were extra DIRTY LOOKING in season 1.
Dean Winchester 02-01-2006, 11:17 AM what's with this sudden Roseanne hatred?
who else is willing to bet there's gonna be a thread soon about why the Tanner's are better than the Conner's?
MWC was a funny show, but if you get down to it, they were bigger white trash than the Conner's any day. While the Conner's rifted, deep down you knew they really loved and cared about each other, nothing of that sort was ever shown on MWC.

I disagree, The Bundys cared about how they looked. Can't say that about the Connors. And since Roseanne and Dan were OVERWEIGHT they could have atleast been NEAT looking instead of just walking around SLOPPY
GARFIELDKOOL 02-01-2006, 11:25 AM Al was kind of sloppy looking himself.
Brian Damage 02-01-2006, 11:27 AM As far as comedy goes, MWC was so over the top it was funny. Roseanne was more realistic comedy.
TVFactFan 02-01-2006, 11:29 AM Al was kind of sloppy looking himself.
How was AL sloppy looking? His shirt was always TUCKED IN
Dean Winchester 02-01-2006, 11:29 AM oh, so one show is better than the other because one has skinny people in it?
This will come as a surprise, but John Goodman actually became a "big guy sex symbol" while on Roseanne because a lot of people thought he was like a cuddly teddy bear. And Roseanne was barely fat in the latter seasons after she started the plastic surgery, she was considerably slimmer in seasons 7-9 than she was in the early years.
I don't watch my TV shows based on how many sexy thin people are in it or not.
Plus, the Bundy's couldn't stand each other!!! Even though Darlene was sarcastic and made fun of Becky and DJ, there were moments where you saw that deep down, she did love and care for both of them. Al and Peg, in 11 seasons, never showed a sign that they could even stand the sight of each other.
It's too bad that you have to be shallow and think that the number of supermodels in the cast is proportioned to how good the show is... I'm sure Baywatch is the greatest creation television ever saw then, right?

I'm talking more about them being SLOPPY not Fat. The Kids were not NEAT either and they were not FAT. I'm saying the family just looked like they didn;t wash-lol Has nothing to do with them being FAT
GARFIELDKOOL 02-01-2006, 11:34 AM How was AL sloppy looking? His shirt was always TUCKED IN
It's the way he wore his pants. They drooped down,. You don't have to have your shirt tucked out to look sloppy.
TVFactFan 02-01-2006, 11:36 AM It's the way he wore his pants. They drooped down,. You don't have to have your shirt tucked out to look sloppy.
Al carried himself a lot better than DAN.
Dean Winchester 02-01-2006, 11:37 AM actually, when Roseanne started, critics lauded the kids on the show for actually being more realistic than the picture-perfect Huxtables. You gotta admit the Huxtable kids were too good to be true, lol.
Dean Winchester 02-01-2006, 11:38 AM Al carried himself a lot better than DAN.
actually, Dan wasn't that unlike a drywall/construction worker. Why should
Dan walk around in three-piece suits when he obviously was not that type of person? it'd be like my best friend who works in a factory to wear a suit instead of jeans and boots, which goes along with his job?
GARFIELDKOOL 02-01-2006, 11:40 AM Al carried himself a lot better than DAN.
I liked Married With Children a lot better than Roseanne. But Al wasn't neat either. Peg was sloppy too. They had that didn't give a f*uck attitude, which made them sloppy.
Dean Winchester 02-01-2006, 11:48 AM I agree, the Bundy's were hardly the Huxtables in the sense.
I honestly don't understand why it's so bad if Dan walks around in jeans instead of dressed up at home? Believe it or not, television will never show this, but I have friends who are lawyers who are always dressed down when they're not working... sometimes TV oversensationalizes things when they have characters who are dressed up in suits when they're off and home for the day. Dan would dress up if the occasion called for it, but when he was relaxed and comfortable, he went in his jeans. Same with Roseanne and her clothes, she would get herself made up when she wants to, she just didn't want to walk around the house (and seriously, why should she?) in high heels.
And the kids... like it or not, put three kids together, and you're more likely going to get Becky/Darlene/DJ than Denise/Vanessa/Theo. It's the way it goes, people complained about how unrealistically behaved and Stepfordized the Huxtable kids were.
TVFactFan 02-01-2006, 11:52 AM actually, Dan wasn't that unlike a drywall/construction worker. Why should
Dan walk around in three-piece suits when he obviously was not that type of person? it'd be like my best friend who works in a factory to wear a suit instead of jeans and boots, which goes along with his job?
I'm not saying he had to wear a suit but the clothes he had on was too small which made him look sloppy. My mom even noticed that the other night. That coat he would wear was too small.
troopoleon8897 02-01-2006, 11:58 AM Now what I don't get is where you think they are sloppy and it looks like they don't was. In alot of the episodes Dan does have his flannel shirts tucked in. And the kids looked fine to me, you also got to realize that it was the early 980's things back then look gross to us now a days because we would never think about whering something like that. and I think they looked more clean then the Bundys. Also How do they look like they are not clean, its not like they have gum stuck in there hair or giant greese stains on there pants or food all over their shirts... and about Dan wearing jeans that hung off him, half the people in america do that today, and him being sloppy I don't know how many people you know but tucking in your shirt doesn't make you almighty cleanliness....
gotta go my bell just rang, i'll finish this up later...
spunkygirl 02-01-2006, 02:35 PM Okay this is really nitpicking now Solomon.
I mean I don't care if someone's sloppy on a tv show as long as they're not walking around with dog or cat poop on their clothes.
I think Dan and Roseanne looked alot better than the Bundy's and yes Al was very sloppy.

very true. The Conner's were blue collar... The Bundy's were white trash. It's all in the way you act. The Bundy's were obsessed with the toilet and foot odor and other stuff like that, which the Conner's never sunk so low to be obsessed about.
GARFIELDKOOL 02-01-2006, 08:20 PM To put an end to this argument, like Hung Up, said, they were both white trash! The Connors I think had better morals and a bit more pride than the Bundys. Al had that damn toilet in his living room. Peg and Kelly were sluts. Peg couldn't cook. Peg didn't clean. Al wore that salesaman uniform around the house all day. Bud was just a younger version of Al. A loser. Remember that episode where Al was eating burritos, and he went upstairs to force himself to take a sh*it and some inspector-looking people came running down! LOL I was cracking up in that episode. I am sorry, The Bundy's were the kings of white trash and sloppiness. At least the Connors had meals together like a family.

very well said

Roseanne in season 1 worked in a factory; how was she supposed to be dressed up? In high heels? When she got home she had more work waiting for her.
Dan, was a hard-working man, he wasn't going to worry abt how he looked. He looked clean to me. So what if he is fat, overweight or whatever. I would take Dan anyday over that egotistical, no good, ugly, skanky Al Bundy who didn't give a rats a$$ abt his wife.
Too many people in this country worry more abt how they look, then how they behave. They should worry abt their manners; I didn't see the Bundys have any manners and morals whatsoever.
I think it's pretty obvious by now Soloman, you don't like overweight people, women who wear sneakers, etc. But why make a thread abt how tv characters LOOK CLEAN OR DIRTY????????????

Irene I'm talking about when Dan and Roseanne was home
Ireneparalegal 02-01-2006, 09:22 PM Irene I'm talking about when Dan and Roseanne was home
After working my a$$ off all day, the last thing I am thinking abt is "dressing up". I am sure they took a shower before they went to bed, but why are two adults who worked all day, and a mother who still has work waiting for her going to worry abt how she looks?
TVFactFan 02-01-2006, 09:28 PM After working my a$$ off all day, the last thing I am thinking abt is "dressing up". I am sure they took a shower before they went to bed, but why are two adults who worked all day, and a mother who still has work waiting for her going to worry abt how she looks?
I still think thety entire family didn't look clean-lol Maybe it was just the wardrobes they had the characters wear because I don't feel like that about no other family. The Evans was a low income family too but they didn't come off as Dirty.

I agree with you, Irene, I am chillin' in my sleeping pants, and my Redskin t-shirt. LOL
Solomon, stop trying to be impossible! You know damn well the Connors were cleaner than the Bundys!
troopoleon8897 02-01-2006, 09:40 PM So Roseanne, Becky and Darlene look as NEAT as Peggy and Kelly Bundy?
Yes I do, Peggy wore the same damn outfit many times and Kelly was a ****ing Slut...
Ireneparalegal 02-01-2006, 09:45 PM I agree with you, Irene, I am chillin' in my sleeping pants, and my Redskin t-shirt. LOL
Solomon, stop trying to be impossible! You know damn well the Connors were cleaner than the Bundys!
I am here in my sweat pants and an extra large shirt and my socks. I just finished making dinner. I had a long day, I don't need to dress up. I know I am clean, I had my daily shower and I am tired!!!! LOL
The Conners represented alot of families. The kids didn't have the best designer clothes, designer shoes, etc. The kids were dressed appropriately for a basic middle class family that were hard-working. The Conners house wasn't perfect and tidy, just like alot of families. I can relate to things like that. Which is why alot of people related to the Conners. I can clean my house from top to bottom, but it won't stay that way very long. The Conners were not dirty. The Evans didn't have much clothes, but they were clean, as were the Conners. I never got the impression that the Conners were dirty. Just a real down to earth family with everyday struggles.
Kelly from MWC was a slut and I would hate to even think abt how dirty her clothes were from all her "activities".
TVFactFan 02-01-2006, 09:45 PM Yes I do, Peggy wore the same damn outfit many times and Kelly was a ****ing Slut...
Sorry it's just no contest when it came to the Connor and Bundy Women apperances
Ireneparalegal 02-01-2006, 09:48 PM Sorry it's just no contest when it came to the Connor and Bundy Women apperances
How abt their smell? I am sure Kelly after her many "activities" and Peg, wearing skin tight clothes all day long, can't hold a candle to any of the "Roseanne" women.
Dean Winchester 02-01-2006, 09:54 PM Sorry it's just no contest when it came to the Connor and Bundy Women apperances
ok, with Kelly you have a point, but Peg??? Becky and Darlene were better looking than Peg. Dan was definately better looking (at least before he really gained too much weight) than Al as well.
Sorry, but I think most people would have the Conner's as their next door neighbor more than the Bundy's. It's bs to be so damn shallow and expect so much. Roseanne was a realistic series that people identified with.... whereas almost everyone complained about how fake the Huxtables were with their perfect existance and life. Sorry, but kids are not as perfect as the Huxtables are... and also, if the father's a doctor and mother's a lawyer, they do not have spend all that amount of time home with their kids... in a realistic world, the Huxtables would've had nannies.
friendsfan77 02-02-2006, 06:23 AM How was AL sloppy looking? His shirt was always TUCKED IN
Yes however his hand was often down in there lol

As much as I loved the Cosby Show, that is so true.
comedyfreak 02-02-2006, 10:21 AM Becky always cared about how she looked. I liked both shows equally, but you have to admit Peg didn't do housework or cook for Al and Roseanne did.
Dean Winchester 02-02-2006, 11:54 AM As much as I loved the Cosby Show, that is so true.
when I was a kid, TCS was a fave show, but the older I get, the less I enjoy it because of the stupid reasons, Cliff and Clair's condescending attitude has really hurt the show for me with adult eyes, the kids were all fine, but the way Cliff and especially Clair looked down at everyone (and not in the sense where their ego was funny, like how Blair on FOL being a snooty rich bitch was actually one of the shows ongoing jokes) really makes the show harder to enjoy as opposed to when you're a kid and just think it's a funny show.
