They took that from the movie Cooley High, although he didn't actually get beat. The mother was too tired from work and fell asleep before she could spank him. But yeah, if I remember correctly, the character in the movie might have mentioned that he was too old to be getting beatings.

And yes, it was ridiculous.

Not only was he too old, he was too big in size for it even to be realistic.

I think someone once mentioned here that to a black parent if you still living under their roof and their still taking care of you...they feel you never to big for a spanking!

No matter how old you might get, if you're living under a parent's roof, you're never too old or mature for a spanking/punishment.
That's what making personal choices to move OUT of the parent's house, are for!
