the ARCHIE 1970s variety tv special, based on the comic

I vaguely remember seeing that TV special. It was aired on ABC in May 1977
and starred Dennis Bowen as Archie Andrews, Audrey Landers (DALLAS) as
Betty Cooper, Gordon Jump (WKRP IN CINCINATTI) as Archie's father, and
Darrell Maury (JOANIE LOVES CHACHI) as Jughead. The pilot was never picked
up as a series but it was interesting to see the characters in live-action for the
first time.

The 1990 NBC-TV movie "ARCHIE: TO RIVERSALE AND BACK AGAIN," in which
the characters were grown up, was better. It starred Christopher Rich (THE
CHARMINGS, REBA) as Archie, Karen Kopins as Veronica, Sam Whipple as
Jughead, Lauren Holly as Betty, and Gary Kroeger as Reggie.
