I got seasons 1 and 2 of Diff'rent Strokes yesterday and they were funny as they were when I first saw the series. Now I can't wait until the third season of Strokes or for that matter the the fourth or fifth The show is one of my all time favorites along with Gimme A Break and What's Happening

I agree, seasons 3 through the first half of season 6 is DS at its peak IMO. Season 2 is great to hold over, and I just hope that we see more Strokes on DVD, especially knowing that Facts is coming soon, season three and the upcoming FOL season 1/2 would be perfect together for the crossover episodes from the 1980-1981 season. Season two is infinately better than season one, but I like Willis and Kimberly a bit older, while Arnold is still cute and funny but not to the point where he's too old to still be.

I can't wait either!!! I just want the whole series on DVD. I have this thing where if I buy a TVDVD, I MUST complete the entire series. Although I don't really like the last two seasons, i'll be buying them (hopefully they all come out), and I'll watch them. it might be painful to spend 25 minutes with Sam and his mother, but I'll do it.

I used to be that way but there are some shows that I don't wanna go all the way with on DVD. There are shows like Buffy, Sex And The City, Golden Girls, Seinfeld, Roseanne and Facts Of Life that having it all the way is what I demand, but there are shows like DS (I'm stopping after season 6 after Sam and Maggie were added and Kimberly was dropped), Moonlighting (stopping with season 3 because seasons 4 and 5 are almost universally hated and I like the show too much to see the decline that people still talk about 18 years later), Charmed (stopping with season 6, I hate season 5, but 6 is good enough to own and I'd feel weird skipping a season to get to six, but once was more than enough for 7 and 8 and I dunno if I want those) and Ally McBeal (seasons 1-4 were gold, season 5 was awful and painful) where I have my stopping points and will be pleased with that point with no desire to own the latter seasons.

I think we all can agree that the last 2 seasons are much much better than the first two.

you are kidding. Even if you hate season 1, the worst episode of the first year blew away the best episodes of 7 and 8

No I mean the last two seasons, Willis and Arnold were Older and Arnold was going on Dates and hanging out with his friends. In season one Arnold was just being carried around by Mr. Drummond and Willis was always in Harlem-LOL_LOL

but also in the last two seasons, Arnold and Sam were partners in crime in every other episode. The last two seasons are painful to watch and even Gary Coleman of all people said that season 8 should not have happened.

Maybe if we could go back in time and have Maggie join, but make her childless, seasons 7 and 8 would've been better, but Sam singlehanded ruined what was once a great series. The first season wasn't the best but at least it felt like Diff'rent Strokes, seasons 7 and 8 didn't.

What don't you like about season 2? IMO, Season 2 was much more like the show we had from seasons 3-6 than season 1 was.

Season 7 was where everything started going downhill. And the last season was just dreadful. Don't get me wrong, It's still better than some other shows' final season. (Laverne and Shirley! they had no business going on with Just Laverne.).....The first season of Diff'rent Strokes might not have been that great, but I do like it better than those last 2. Maybe if Sam wasn't brought in I would have enjoyed it more. And I was tired of never seeing Kimberly.

I wouldn't mind Season 8, on account of several appearances by Jason Hervey as Charlie. Jason, as you may recall, played Wayne Arnold on The Wonder Years. :D

I liked Season One the best for its realism - particularily the first (pilot) episode. Willis doesn't want to be there, and Arnold gets upset with Willis, telling him in a stern voice: you're not being fair to me, to you, to Mr. Drummond---or to Mama!

I see the Willis character was softened up too much by season 3 almost to the point that he was kind of nerdy

I actually can't wait for the last season - mainly because I never seen it more than once.

From what I remember, Arnold was in a perpectual depression, to a point that the Willis character remarks, Man, what's wrong with you? (paraphrased, or made up from dim memory).

All through the seasons, Arnold was bright and bubbly, but in the final season, he was morose and very, very serious.

That's the Arnold I like (more normal than the wisecracking kid you see in the other seasons).

LOL, the execs at NBC knew what they were doing when they dropped the series after season 7. I guess when ABC snatched it up, the cast figured they could go another 7. If Gary Coleman knew season 8 shouldnt have happened, he should have demanded they used that season for closure since he had alot of pull on the show.
