How can they expect to have a large loyal fanbase when they air reruns throughout the season. Does anyone know why they do this? Thanks!

Well I guess it'd be because the cast needs a break. They're working all day from Mon straight through Saturday writing and rehearsing. They usually do about three live episodes and then one or two reruns. This week was a repeat, but next week it's live again, just like the week before.

Three live shows?? I wish! They rarely do more than two live shows in a row. In fact, I can't remember the last time they did three shows back-to-back. The only time I can remember that happening was during the '70s.

During the show's first five years, they would air reruns from previous seasons during the breaks between live shows, which was a great way to get caught up on older shows if you were a new viewer. But now that E! gets the previous year's shows at the beginning of a new season, that practice is long gone.

Hmm, I'm pretty sure it didn't happen too long ago...

I stand corrected. It still is an unusual occurence, though. SNL seasons typically only have 20 episodes now, spread out over Oct-May and they usually run in two-episode cycles.

Of course, they took a month off after the December episodes. Must be tough working three weeks a month.
