Happy Charles Lane Day!

I doubt he has the necessary web access to read this but I wanted to send out good thoughts in the direction of veteran character actor Charles Lane. He is seen above left in his recurring role of Homer Bedloe, the mean old man who wanted to scrap the Hooterville Cannonball on the TV series Petticoat Junction. And he is seen above right in one of his other eight million film roles, most of which cast him as a similarly-mean old man.

Mr. Lane is 101 years old today. It's a Wonderful Life, indeed.

Happy Birthday Charles Lane, I'll always remember him for his appearances in Bewitched. I seen him last night on TVLand on the Andy Griffith show.

...he does one, occasionally, even at his advanced age.

Yes, he's had a long career...when he started out in films in the late '30s, he usually played the "cynical newspaper reporter". When he got older, his specialty became the grumpy, humorless clerk or accountant. THEN, he started playing "THE crusty, mean old"...banker, executive, judge, lawyer, you name it. Were there mothers who told their children late at night, "If you don't behave, Charles Lane will come and take your toys and bedroom away from you-- and charge you 18% interest to give it back!"/"NO, Mama, I'll be good! I'll be GOOD!!! Honest, I will.....!!!".
