Was the Wonder Years canceled or did it end? Im not sure. I know it lasted six seasons, so that makes me curious. Did it get canceled or did it decide to end after only 6 seasons?

Canceled, unfortunately and in my opinion a bad move by ABC but anyway..that's why they jump right to the last scene because they didn't know whether they'd be cancelled or not.

I'd have to say Madness, just from my view, that every show gets canceled. Hardly ever is it a group decision by producers and cast who say "I think we should go." The only times I've really heard of that is when Danson called off "Cheers", and Jerry ended "Seinfeld". From the stuff I've read the last 10 years or so, whenever a show is canceled, the producers get fair warning they they aren't going to be picked up for the fall, and are given a chance to give finality to the characters. A recent case where that didn't happen was with "Married...with Children". They had completed their most recent season and then learned during the summer they weren't coming back, so the show wasn't given a proper send-off. But most of the time they are alerted.

Supposedly, what I heard was that they thought they were going to continue at least another season--and that's why the ending is about 3-4 minutes long. So, in reality...they had time to give it a ending of sorts. They tied it in nicely though. It's one of my favorites.

Good, point, Madness, I never really thought about that in the 4th of July scene. That they shot a lot of footage so that they could end the year or have Stern dub over comments about what happens in the future.

A very bad move by ABC indeed! The show should have gone on at least ten (yes, 10!) more seasons! What was ABC thinking? The show had the potential to rise to #1 in the Nielsen ratings!

lol I don't think The Wonder Years needed to go on for 10 more seasons!

The Wonder Years was canceled at the last moment their were rumors for a season 7 but it never happened, plus the show was on the air for 5 years fred savage and the gang were pushing 20 they wanted to move on with their lives while they were still young enough, i think the wonder years could have lasted untill atleast 1995.

James i agree their was no way that the wonder years could have run 10 long years from 1988-1998 lol, the wonder years was getting stale in season 6 back in 1993, their was no way that the show could have made it 5 more years, the producers were kinda running out of ideas for episodes in season 5

Your posts are kind of contradictory, but anyway...Fred Savage wasn't pushing 20, he was 17 lol...unless you call 3 years "pushing," but I mean he was the same age as Kevin, so...

It would have been cool for the show to go one more year so they could graduate, but I think they were running out of ideas. But on the other hand, the sixth season seemed to start a lot of new storylines, too, which I think could have been continued into another season.

Their could have atleast been a TV movie about kevin's life as an adult atleast but never happened they waited to long now all the cast members are too old now.

lol They're not too old. Fred Savage is only 37, that's not old. They could totally still do it or have a reunion type show or movie.

Ten more seasons, for 15 (or was it 16?) total, from 1988-2003 and 335 episodes if you assume 22 eps per season. That way the show would have outlasted Cheers (which was canceled at the same time TWY was but with more fanfare, grr  ).

Savage was 16 when the show ended, an most of his peers were around the same age. Wayne was turning 21 though...
