Hey! Thanks for remembering The Chipmunks. Great site. I especially enjoyed the history of The Chipmunks. I can remember first hearing "The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late)" back in 1958. They weren't even cartoon characters yet. They appeared as puppets on an ED SULLIVAN SHOW. In 1959, they appeared in their first comic book. Then, in 1961, the animated ALVIN SHOW debuted on CBS in prime-time. I still love those cartoons, although I also like the new ones produced by Ross Bagdasarian Jr. and his wife Janice Karman. His new book looks interesting. I can't wait to
see it come out in stores.

I love ONLY the 1961-1965 series (acvtually in first runs in 1961-1962, in prime time then reran 1962-1965, all this while on CBS-TV), wtih that nutty inventor "Clyde Crashcup" (Shepard Menken a la comic radio character actor "Richard Haydn", the voice of the Disney 1951 "Alice in Wonderland" caterpillar--"Eggsackitackally",aka "Exactly"..), and his whispering small assistant, "Leonardo",in a supporting popular segment.

Produced by "Format FIlms",a UPA (Magoo, etc.) offshoot,in typucal limited animaiton style, it resmebled Underdog and Peabody and Rocky in animation style.

The Format Films studio also produced the animated segments for HEE HAW.
