I just heard on my local news that Chris Penn, actor and brother of Sean Penn was found dead. It is breaking news and they didn't reveal much info. The news would give more info as it became available.

At this time they would only say his body was found in a Santa Monica residence and they were showing live footage of the police at the residence, but no other details were given other than it is confirmed it is Chris Penn.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Actor Chris Penn, brother of Sean Penn, was found dead Tuesday at a Santa Monica residence, police said. Police discovered the actor's body around 4 p.m., Lt. Frank Fabrega said.

"The Penn family would appreciate the media's respect of their privacy during this difficult time," Mara Buxbaum, Sean Penn's publicist, said in a statement.
Chris Penn's credits included "Mulholland Falls,""Rumble Fish,""All the Right Moves,""Footloose" and "Rush Hour."

He also played Nice Guy Eddie Cabot in the 1992 Quentin Tarantino crime drama "Reservoir Dogs." His late father, Leo Penn, directed television shows. His mother, Eileen Ryan, is an actress whose credits include "I Am Sam,""Magnolia" and "Parenthood." Another brother is musician Michael Penn.

that's very sad, I wouldn't be too surprised if it was a heart attack, the man looked so unhealthy in recent years, he let himself go so much compared to the days of Footloose, it's very sad and I hope Sean and Michael are doing okay.

I was just about to post the same thing..I just seen him in something recent, thinking he looked pretty out of shape,like he had some severe circulatory problems or was a dangerously heavy drinker. it's pretty sad.:(

he actually looked like he had gotten into shape and looked great as a musclebear when he guested on Will And Grace a few years back, but the more recent pics I saw of him, he looked worse than ever.

I hope John Goodman doesn't follow in the footsteps, he's looked on the verge of a heart attack lately as well, even though he did look like he was beginning to lose weight when he was on Larry King with the cast of Roseanne.

The last time I saw Chris Penn in a movie, he had really blown up. It's dangerous. I think of John Candy.

George Wendt looked bloated when I saw him on tv a while back. I hope he's slimmed down a bit for his own good.

Same goes for Michael Moore. He looks dangerously overweight.

I will always remember him for his role in "Reservoir Dogs". It will be interesting ta hear tha cause of his unfortunate death.

Now when I drive past that area, I will be looking and wondering how this came to be. It's so sad.

I am surprised there's been no mention of Footloose. To me, I think the scene where Kevin Bacon taught a young and thin Chris how to dance to the soundtrack of "Let's Hear It For The Boy" would be what everyone remembers him for. I remember a few people saying they didn't know who he was, and then I mentioned that part and they knew.

At Close Range was a good movie, I mostly checked it out because "Live To Tell"'s one of my favorite Madonna songs, but it is just too disturbing for me to ever want to watch it a second time, even worse knowing it was based on a true story. That was definately a movie that sticks with you.

I thought it went perfectly with the movie, especially at the beginning when he's driving at nighttime, as the chorus plays. Very haunting. I could tell just from those first 5 minutes, that it was going to be an amazing film. That's also one of my favorite Madonna songs as well. Definitely top 5. I know what you mean about the movie being depressing. The kind of film that really makes you question humanity afterwards. Definitely not the type of thing you can watch over and over again, that's for sure!!

yep, Christopher Walken was brilliant as the bad guy, so convincing to the extent you were hating his (as in Christopher's) guts by the end of the movie

Chris Penn was a good actor. RIP. Chris Tucker cracked me up in Rush Hour when he dissed Chris when Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan visited him in prison to get some info about the abducted chinese girl. Chris Tucker said to Chris, next time i come to visit you, i'm gonna give your fat ass some cookies hahahahahahahahahaha. I remember Chris in Footloose movie. He was Kevin Bacon's friend in that and he was skinnier back then. I saw him in a low budget movie with Stephen Baldwin too. I can't remember the name of it.

I've seen that movie at least a half dozen times. It's a very powerful and disturbing movie, and even more so since it's a true story.

An awesome actor. That family sure has talent. It's sad to know that he may have done something to himself to have caused his life to be cut short. We will have to wait and see.

LOS ANGELES - Investigators suspect actor Chris Penn’s death was the result of natural causes or an accident because he had a prior illness and had taken drugs in the past, a coroner’s spokesman said Thursday.

The 40-year-old actor was found dead in his Santa Monica condominium on Tuesday.

Penn had suffered from an illness and used multiple drugs in the past, said David Smith, a Los Angeles County coroner’s spokesman. He declined to release details of the illness or say if the drugs were prescribed.

Medical examiners performed an autopsy Wednesday but won’t know what caused Penn’s death until toxicology tests are completed in about six weeks.

Penn was the younger brother of Academy Award-winning actor Sean Penn and musician Michael Penn. He appeared in numerous films, including “Reservoir Dogs,” “Starsky & Hutch,” “Rush Hour” and “Corky Romano.”
