View Full Version : There still might be a 6th network
Just because the WB and UPN merger, does not necessary mean that they will be no more 6th network. I wouldn't surprised, and part of me expects for someone to start their own network, using UPN's soon to be affeliates.
I am sure there is some rich person that thinks, they can take advantage of the merger.
Buffyboy323 01-26-2006, 12:15 AM Hopefully there will just be reruns shown on the 6th Network...Maybe they could bring back shows that aren't really shown anywhere else. Like: Harry and The Hendersons. Hogan Family, Punky Brewster, Facts Of Life, Different Strokes, and some modern day shows for the primetime block.

Not all UPN's will be independent. It all depends on what area you are. Atlanta's UPN will become The CW, while their WB goes independent.
The Fox owned UPN stations (in NY, LA, Chicago, etc) are becoming independent, but Fox is eyeing something else for them. Maybe a new programming service.

A 6th network would never do that. You can see those type of shows on independent channels this fall, if the affiliates choose that route.
Buffyboy323 01-26-2006, 04:23 AM What actually happens to the Channel itself? Like my WB is 11 and UPN is 9. If 11 become CW, what happens to 9???
PrettyinPink55 01-26-2006, 04:31 AM Yeah, which one converts to the CW?
greenlaser5555 01-26-2006, 08:24 AM I live in the Atlanta metro area, my UPN is 69, and my WB is 36. So this means that my CW will be 69, and the independent channel will be 36 is that right?

I covered all this in the blog. WPIX (WB11) will be The CW. WWOR (UPN9) will turn INDEPENDENT. They can air anything they want in primetime.
TV_Fan 01-26-2006, 12:00 PM Isn't there already a so called network out there that no one watches? Oh yeah, PAX TV now known as I. I think it's not even available in many areas of the country and there's never anything new on it.
Storywriter 01-26-2006, 12:52 PM I live in Poughkeepsie that is in New York my UPN is 9 and My WB is 11 so I'm guessing this stupid merger called The CW will be my channel 11.

It's called "i" now, for Independent TV, using the lower case "i". Check out http://www.ionline.tv/ for more information.
Unfortunately there currently is no affiliate in Dayton. The closest one to me is WSFJ 51 in Columbus.
spunkygirl 01-29-2006, 05:26 PM WSFJ is now GTN

You're not missing much. They don't seem to have any of their own shows currently in production and they don't show reruns of good shows like Life Goes On or Eight is Enough like they used to.

Sasette, from GTN's webpage it looks as if GTN's fare is very similar to that of PAX/"i" with its Christian programming. The webpage is http://www.gtn.tv/ in case you're interested.
