When burning dvd discs, which do you perfer to use? I for one choose DVD-R THAT'S DVD MINUS R!!! DVD+R wont play in every DVD Player and is very risky. Give me DVD-R over DVD+R's anyday!

I have never had a problem with DVD+R compatibility and that was the first drive I bought, but personally I don't care which I use now.

The real discussion we will be having is when they have the HD DVD, Blu Ray format war. That's just bad for the consumers.

Actually it's the other way around.


But I use both and have never had compatibility trouble with anything but my laptop, which is junk anyway.

My Recorder only uses +R so that's what I use.

Oh and if you finalize the disc, - or + it should play in other players. If it's not finalized, it'll only play in the recorder it was made in.

I prefer DVD-R because that's what works to burn DVDs viewable on my DVD player.

DVD-R's are compatible with 90% of every DVD Player. DVD+R are only compatible with the newer systems, will play on about 60% of all DVD Players.

Well I don't know when that changed but when I got my first burner 3 years ago, the DVD+R played on more machines than the -R. Any new one should play both theroretically. Although my new DVD recorder won't play DVD+R DL discs burned in my computer, but plays DVD+R and -R, but my old DVD players play the DL and the regular ones.

This poll will close on Jan. 2022?????!!!!by then, it won't matter which DVD (+ or -) you prefer.:crazy:

Yes, you still have to finalize +R. + or - RW doesn't have to be finalized. I don't know the difference between the two, except that +R is definetly more compatible, despite what people keep saying.

I also know my recorder that does both +R and -R finalizes the -R slower than +R. Don't know why though.

Actually I have to finalize DVD-RW to get them to play in other players. I don't have to do that with DVD+RWs though.

RWs are good for editing and whatnot, but after you have a finished product, I would always put it on an DVDR.
