Seeing the previews for this movie have confirmed my worst fears: That this movie never should have been made in the first place.

I think Steve Martin's great, despite the fact that his movies in recent years have become pretty pedestrian, considering this is the man who within a two year period made the gonzo comedy The Jerk and the musical Pennies From Heaven.

The problem is that Martin seems to be trying too hard to be funny as Inspector Clouseau. His accent is too over-the-top and his acting seems forced to me.

The bigger problem is that only one man could play Clouseau...Peter Sellers. If anyone reading this hasn't seen the original, go and rent the original Pink Panther instead of or before going to see the new version.

Peter Sellers was a natural comic actor, with timing that was unbelievable and he made Clouseau unplayable by any other actor. There was a previous attempt at an American version in the late '60s with Alan Arkin and it couldn't even touch the weakest Pink Panther movie with Peter Sellers.

No more remakes! How about...something original...??

I think they have run out of ideas.

There's really only one Insp. Clouseau and that's Peter Sellers.

Exactly. Aside from the paycheck, I don't know why any actor would even want to attempt playing Clouseau. Nothing against Steve Martin, but I hope it flops like The Honeymooners remake.
