how did mork get pregnant and have big baby merth?

I don't know how he got pregnant but he gave birth by ejecting a small egg from his navel. The egg grew and grew and when it cracked it revealed a full-grown Jonathan Winters (Mearth)!

Does anyone know the story behind how the network people came up with the name Mearth? It is my understanding that it came from a nationwide contest, and that a couple from Ohio came up with the winning entry, based on a combination of an 'M' word (perhaps Mork and/or Mindy) and Earth. I would just like to verify this if anyone has any information that would support or deny what I have heard. Thanks!
