It's a shame that there's blacks in real life who have 3 kids and live in the ghetto. You got some young black single mothers who have 3 kids. James always got frustrated about being poor and it never seemed to bother Florida that they were poor. If James and Florida hadn't had any kids, they wouldn't have been poor LOL. People get on my nerves always wanna have kids and then cry about they're poor and they live in the ghetto. Stop having kids then and you won't be broke and poor LOL. That's why i don't have any kids because i can barely take care of myself. I used to date 2 black women who have 3 kids and 5 kids. The girl i used to date who has 5 kids, she had 3 kids when i was dating her. She had 2 more kids last year. She's about to be 36 this year and she isn't married. She doesn't have a man. She told me a few weeks ago that she's engaged. The 2 kids she had recently are by the same guy but he used to beat her so she broke up with him. She's never had a car and i don't think she has a driver's license. She used to be homeless last year and she stayed at a homeless shelter. That's pathetic. There's no excuse for her to be having that many kids and she can't take care of herself. The girl i used to date that has 3 kids, they're by the same guy but she broke up with him a long time ago because she caught him cheating on her. She used to live with him and his woman. How messed up is that. How can she live with him and his woman in a apartment when she got kids by him? She's not smart at all. She told me when she gets her income tax check this year, she wants to buy a car. How is she gonna buy a car when she works at Kmart as a cashier? Hahahahahahahahahaha. She told me she only makes $7.50 a hour. She also told me she wants to get her own place because she stays with her sister and her mother. Her sister has 4 kids and no job but she manages to get her own place and feed her kids. I'm sure she's getting a welfare check every month and food stamps. Her sister i dated, she gets WIC stamps every month because when i took her to the grocery store, she was buying milk, cheese and eggs for her kids. I just shook my head. The point of these stories relates to James and Florida. What i'm saying is that blacks need to stop having kids when they can't take care of themselves. There's a sad epidemic going on in the black community nowadays because there's so many young black women having babies and they're raising these babies by themselves because the men who get them pregnant leave them because they're scared to take care of their responsibilities.

People can have children if they wish. I don't think that any of the Evan's children were planned. I think James had a problem with being poor because he was the man of the house and in his world, the man is supposed to take care of his family. And he was working so hard but not getting anywhere.

I think that James and Florida did a wonderful job with what they had to work with. They had great kids who weren't disrespectful to others and they weren't disrespectful to their parents.

Also I think James and Florida did a hell of a job in taking care of their family without the help of government assistance.

Two parent households can qualify for government assistance. They go by your income and the lack of income. Not by how many parents are in a household.

Well that means that the Evans should have received Goverment Assistance because they certainly qualified for it with James bringing home NOTHING-lol

I agree with you Soloman, but remember, James would never allow that. Remember when she went to the welfare trying to get the rent assistance when they were going to be evicted? She only went out of desperation.

I could go for some food stamps myself, I ain't proud. We were raised on food stamps growing up, I was embarrassed to be seen in the store with them as a kid, because your peers made fun of you.

The writers should have wrote food stamps for the family... at least some emergency food stamps. If James knew how much food stamps keeps the green in the pocket, them stamps would've became his best friend. In the words of Willona, they could have afforded to pay for last week's food with next week's prices. LOL

I so agree with you Kool. They are available for a reason. The stigma is not the food stamps themselves, it's the fact that those who have abused the system, make it an embarrassment for those who really need those resources.

speaking of being proud: It really irritated the hell outta me when James always said he was too proud and Wanda, who doesn't "take charity" in the rent party episode. Give me a f****** break, but I have been in a situation where finances were real bad and I had friends who helped me out and believe me, I am not gonna take it the wrong way. It feels good knowing people care. I am blessed to be in a situation where finances is not a problem...but i don't forget that period of time and so whenever I see someone who needs help, I give it.

I can see why James would feel the way he felt. When I was in college I worked my butt off because I didn't want to call home and ask my mom and dad for money. But when it comes to my kids I would work 5 jobs to provide for them if I were in the Evan's situation. If it were to came down to my pride or no food for my kids, I think that my pride would lose out I would ask for help.

But the Evan's kids never really wanted for anything, they had food to eat clothes on their back (Even if they were homemade) and a roof over their heads.
