detailed explanatiion as to why she was not on the front Cover of the Season 1 DVD? Obviously I'm not the only one who feels this way-lol

She wasn't on the cover, because she wasn't the star of the show. She was a secondary character. However, secondary characters are just as important as the stars. What Mabel brought to the table is a balance. Just showing scenes at the soda shop would've gotten old. A part of what made WH so good was seeing Raj's home life. Mabel provided that. She didn't have many of the funny lines, but she was involved in setting up jokes.Such as when she hugged a kid and they cried out that they couldn't breath. lol Mabel helped set up storylines for the show. Without Mabel, it looked ridiculous that she left her daughter without a mother and left a waitress in charge of her. There was a void when she left.

Your last two sentences put it very well for me. I liked the character of Mabel and her being a single mother, was something that alot of people, families, could identify with. Especially in Los Angeles. She wasn't on welfare, she wasn't poor living in the projects, she was a hard-working woman who was there for her kids and she had great kids.

I agree, Mabel being a single mother working hard to support her kids was a nice side story.

My point is

Michael wasn't the star of Good Times but he was on the cover

Mr. Bentley wasn't the star of The Jeffersons but he was on the Cover

So are you telling me that Mabel was in the same category as Ralph the Doorman and Wanda on Good Times?? Sounds like it-lol

Just because she wasn't on the cover, doesn't mean she wasn't important.

I have to disagree. Looking at that cover of the DVD inside of a store lets a customer know that these are the characters you will enjoy and see the most. That's why DEE wasn't on the cover of season 2 or 3, or Big Earl or Little Earl

Are you saying that since Mabel wasn't on the cover or inside the DVD pack, that she wasn't important to the show? That her character wasn't needed? If so then that's a pointless reason.

She was a big asset to the show, like Brian said she brought balance to the show and when she left, the show lost something. I think they tried to hard to make up for her absence. It wasn't the same show anymore, with any show when you lose a character the show doesn't feel right. So she brought a lot to the table.

Yes that's exactly what I'm saying because if she was important she would have been on the front Cover.

Just because an actor/actress isn't on the DVD cover doesn't mean that they are or are not of essence to the show.

We must also have to remember that it *could* have been negotiated that she would not appear in any flashbacks episodes or market her picture.

I loved Mabel; I cannot imagine the first season without Mabel. There was a great void in S3, I kept thinking she would either come out of the kitchen or come down from upstairs.

As mentioned, when you think about that time era, single mother, divorced family, LA/Watts: Raj and Dee were good kids. Without Mabel, or strong mother figure, Raj and Dee would have been written much different than they were portrayed, so would Dwayne and I doubt reruns character would have existed.

I would have been nice if they explore Dee's edginess in S1.

Well No one has yet to give me a reason why Mabel wasn't on the Cover

What abt the covers of TV Guide? How many shows only show certain characters, it doesn't mean anything. Maybe they wanted to gear towards the young crowd, maybe they weren't allowed to have her pic on the DVD. I just know that when TV Guide had shows with large casts, like Happy Days, Eight is Enough, Three's Company, they would only show who they could. Alot of times it had to do with what was going on backstage. But you have yet to give a legitimate reason as to why she shouldn't be on the cover.

Well a Tv Guide is a lot smaller so you would have to include just the Star and Co-star

Mabel had her moments but overall the show was better without her because the soda shop gave the show more laughs
