Did anybody think Hersha Parady was too strict and overbearing? Maybe the Alice character was supposed to be that way. I always viewed her as one the "tougher" women of Walnut Grove. She didn't seem as dainty and delicate as most of the other women. She was probably supposed to be a tough no-nonsense pioneer woman. You probably wouldn't see Harriet Olson, or even Caroline run into that burning room to get the baby out of the fire.

I wouldn't say she was "too strict and overbearing." She was those things, yes, but I liked that she was different. She always came off as a real authentic poineer women, looks and all.

About running into the room to get the baby, wasn't Alice still in the house when she got him out? The episode will be on in a couple of days so maybe I should wait to answer, but I think she was. It's not like she was all that far away. Wouldn't most people's instincts be to get the baby if they have a path to do so? She was able to get him. It was just getting out that was the problem. Caroline definitely seems like the type to do what Alice did. But Harriet? Mmm, she'd probably be falling apart too much, so maybe she wouldn't.

I liked her. Thought she was a great addition to the show and hated when they killed her off.

Of course, take that with a grain of salt, because I always had a soft spot for her predecessor, Grace Edwards (remember that the Garveys essentially replaced the Edwardses in the fourth season).

Hahah, yes she did act that way. Grace and the whole Edwards' clan were far superior than their blatant replacement, the Garveys. I hated that they just wrote them off as if they no longer existed, until they showed up in a couple episodes years later. Although, I loathed those episodes. Terrible storylines for them to return in they were. In the first return, where Isiah wants to shoot himself, there is no sign of Carl Edwards. What the heck? And in their final return as a family, Carl is back, but isn't the original. And even worse, Bonnie Bartlett was replaced by a Grace imposter! Huge let down.

To further rant, Isiah returns to Walnut Grove... I guess he and Grace did divorce but it still is a feeling that the remaining Edward's dropped off the face of the earth. While in Walnut Grove, Isiah makes no references toward his kids. Did he just write them off? Utterly pathetic.

I actually think the kids wrote him off, for the same reason Grace divorced him - his excessive drinking after adopted son John was killed.

True, that did occur on the episode he left them. They were fed up. It's just one of those tv things I guess. You expect realism, where Isiah makes some reference about his kids, getting in touch with them, trying to patch it up, whatever. But it doesn't always happen in the tv world. He began a new life in Walnut Grove without his family. Case closed. Slightly annoying.

I met Hersha Back in 1997 when I was going a Play in Tampa, FL at he Performing Arts Center. She talked about the last episode she was in and said it was really cool how her character went out. She had fond memories of the show. She teaches acting or she did that the last time I talked to her. She is a really nice person and told me that there were letters of complaint about the episode so it was not aired as much later down the line. TBS did not air it as much. They did do an airing in 1997 on Thanksgiving Day. I taped it including the three movies with Albert dying, Rose's Kidnapping and the town Explosion.

I too have had the pleasure of meeting Hersha. She is indeed a very sweet and kind lady. The episode is very disturbing...I know it has creeped out quite a few other people around the world for over 25 years!! :eek:
