This is mostly a way to talk about the new episodes. However, if you watch a rerun and want to discuss it, here's the place.

"Mr. Monk Goes to a Fashion Show" is the last one I saw. It's the latest episode. I thought it was funny. Monk loves Inspector 8! "She's my soul mate."

Before that, I watched the season 4 marathon on and off today.

Well, of course, the last one I watched was "Mr. Monk Goes to a Fashion Show". I liked that Natalie was so patient with him when he was shopping for new shirts, and she even got the store clerk to be more understanding of Monk's needs. Even though I still miss Sharona a little, I can't imagine she would have been as agreeable as Natalie in that situation.

I skipped the marathon since I have the first three seasons on DVD (and will get season four if/when it becomes available), so I prefer to make my own marathons, commercial-free.

the last TWO eps I watched were "Mr. Monk Goes to a Fashion Show" - i had to watch it twice because they played weezer's "Dope Nose" during the fashion show ! :rock:

I have the latest episode on tape- Mr. Monk Goes to a Fashion Show - I just haven't watched it yet.

"Mr. Monk Bumps His Head" - I enjoyed the episode, it was very funny. My sister said the episode was boring, though.

I'm not big on the six fingered man thing. I'm glad, however, they mentioned it, since it is a part of the story.

It gave Monk an opportunity that few of us ever get - to, as Doctor Kroger put it, meet himself for the very first time. (I liked Stottlemeyer's line after that, though: "That can't be good...")

I, too, am glad that they at least mentioned the six-fingered man again, if only for continuity, but I wouldn't mind if they only bring him up once more, to wrap up Trudy's murder when the series ends.

It was also good to see Michael Shalhoub again, this time as the beekeeper.

"Mr. Monk and the Captain's Marriage" - This was a really good episode. The episodes about the Captain are always good. I loved the scene where Randy and Natalie keep tossing the mouse back and fourth to each other.

It had a bit of a sad ending, though. I won't give it away in case you haven't seen it yet. But it's another turning point in the series.

Yeah, it was kind of depressing. The scene where Leland is at home with Karen and he's about to cry talking to her was kind of hard to watch. I know he's just a TV character, but in my opinion, he doesn't deserve that kind of pain. But of course, that makes for great drama (even if this is more of a comedy).

It was nice to see Donkey Lips from "Salute Your Shorts," though.

Stottlemeyer's probably the best character on the show. he's the only one that's seems to have evolved. He seems a lot calmer and patient with Monk, now.

Monk has seemed to backslide a little in these past (season four) episodes. He seems to be played for laughs more than than before.

Disher keeps getting sillier and sillier (and by sillier, I mean dumber).

Natalie's okay, but after watching some season two episodes on DVD, I'm missing Sharona again.

I wouldn't have minded the situation with Stottlemeyer and his wife if they hadn't already had a breakup and reconciliation in season two. It's sad to see it happening again but, from a more detached perspective, I also see it as a sign of weak writing. Is the marriage really over this time, or is this something the writers are going to drag out every time they want to delve into the captain's personal life? I agree with you - the poor guy doesn't deserve it. He's come a long way and grown a lot, both as a friend to Monk and as a husband. If his wife can't appreciate that, well, maybe he will be better off without her.

I agree that Monk seems to have been backsliding a little in season four, but it's probably just the writers' way of keeping the character fresh. Unlike Stottlemeyer, Monk can't get better because that would be the end of the show. He needs to be the way he is, so the only way he can change is to get worse now and then. Actually, it rings true for me - people afflicted with numerous neuroses such as his probably would go through periods of regression - but he's also had his good moments this season. Don't forget his heroic rescue of Natalie in "Mr. Monk Stays in Bed".

As for Disher, he has become a cartoon. It was funny to watch the friendly antagonism between him and Sharona, but Natalie is so sweet, he can't have that same rapport with her. He seems out of place with the rest of the group now. I wouldn't mind if he were to just go away.

I have to admit I had to look up "Salute Your Shorts" to find out who Donkey Lips was. :lol: Now I'm intrigued...

And if they don't take the newly single captain situation somewhere in the show's storyline, then the whole episode was just depressing for nothing, for it's own sake.

The new episode "I missed the title", the one where there's a million dollar reward. The joke at the end of the episode was referring to how they got picked up for two more seasons of sixteen episodes.

Captain: You two are guarenteed 16 cases a year for the next two years.

Monk: What about after that?

Captain: I don't know. We'll have to take it one year at a time.

Or something like that. :)

There were a lot of firsts between them that we didn't get to see with Sharona. Now that Natalie has settled in and their both comfortable with each other, we're back to where Monk and Sharona were. It gets me thinking about her.

I think it was called "Mr. Monk and the Big Reward", and I noticed that, too, about the sixteen homicides a year for two years. Cute. :)

I also liked Monk's dilemma in the supermarket: "It's just like 'Sophie's Choice'. Only it's soup."

I know what you mean about Natalie. I liked her a lot in the beginning - more than I'd expected to since I'd liked Sharona so much - but now she's becoming more of a prop than a supporting character. She had some good moments in "Mr. Monk Bumps His Head", but lately, when she and Monk are together, she's barely noticeable. I find myself wondering how Sharona would have reacted in some of the situations where Natalie just sort of stands there looking bemused.

So, did you see that there are no new episodes until March 3? Maybe it has something to do with the Olympics. There is a Monk-a-Thon tomorrow during the Super Bowl, though, including a couple of episodes from this season.

Reviving this thread since I'm watching the show again (on DVD). The last episode I watched was from season five... "Mr Monk and the Actor". It's a decent episode, but I'm not gonna lie. The actor playing Monk (for the movie) annoys me.
