He looked like he was set up to me. If big mouth Lamont would have kept his mouth shut, Fred would have kept that money. It was like Lamont was jealous of Fred and didn't want to see him ahead. It was kind of ironic everybody needed money when Fred won something. First of all, Ethel didn't have insurance to cover her operation?! Secondly, Bubba had a job in this episode?! He never mentioned anything about going to work before, so what, let that car stay impounded, it's only a car! The made it sound like the car was a matter of life and death.

Especially after Fred wouldn't share his money with Lamont, or use the money to fix up the place. After Bubba left and Fred complained, Lamont smiled with a sly smile like the plan had worked. I figured they were in cahoots with Lamont.

Yes i think he was setup which is why i hated the Lamont character

In the first season Lamont was very mean and impatient with Fred, he mellowed with each season though.

I always thought it was a setup too! I could tell that Bubba was hiding his false story very well.
