“TV Land is thrilled to have Megan Mullally bring her many talents to our awards show,” states Larry W. Jones. “Megan’s proven talents have made her a success on television, on Broadway and in concert halls and her passion for Classic TV are sure to resonate with fans of the TV Land Awards.”

Megan Mullally is seen weekly in her Emmy and 3-time SAG Award-winning role of “Karen Walker” on NBC’s Will & Grace. This fall, she will host her own daytime syndicated talk show, The Megan Mullally Show on NBC Universal. Mullally made her Broadway debut in the 1994 revival of Grease with Rosie O’Donnell before going on to win the Outer Critics Circle Award nomination for her portrayal of “Rosemary” opposite Matthew Broderick in Broadway’s How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Additionally, she has appeared in numerous stage productions in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles. Her singing career has brought her to such venues as Lincoln Center and The Kennedy Center, where she has performed with her band, Supreme Music Program (SMP) as well as The Disney Concert Hall, where she appeared as a soloist. Upcoming performances from California to New York are also slated. Megan has made two records with SMP, including the recently released Big as a Berry, available on CD.

No offense to Megan Mullally, but they could of gotten a better host. She's funny and a current comedienne, but they should of continued the John Ritter trend of CLASSIC tv stars hosting.

The Sanford & Son marathon sounds nice.

I honestly can say I rarely watch TVL anymore. I used to avidly watch from 2002 to 2004 but I just lost interest. Maybe it's because I can get most of the shows on DVD and know they will always be around now. I'm not sure. LOL. I watch Night Court and Good Times sometimes. All in the Family too, but not very much.

The annual celebration recognizes shows and stars from television’s rich history, is hosted by Will and Grace’s Megan Mullally and is sponsored by M&M'S(r) Brand Chocolate Candies.

Several awards will be bestowed upon some of television’s legendary series’ and stars. The cast and crew of Cheers will be recognized with the Legend Award, Batman will be honored in celebration of its 40th Anniversary, Good Times will receive the Impact Award and Dallas will receive the Pop Culture Award. TV Land will also present awards in several other categories, including the 2005 Future Classic Award – which TV Land unveiled in 1998 and is presented annually to the one new show from the past calendar year which best exemplifies the qualities of an emerging television classic. Last year’s recipient was ABC’s hit series, Desperate Housewives.

Slated to appear at the show include: cast members from Cheers – Ted Danson, Kelsey Grammer, Shelley Long, John Ratzenberger, George Wendt and Rhea Perlman; Batman’s Adam West and Burt Ward; John Amos, Jimmy “JJ” Walker, Ja’net Dubois, BernNadette Stanis, Johnny Brown and Ralph Carter from Good Times and Larry Hagman, Patrick Duffy, Linda Gray, Charlene Tilton, Steve Kanaly, Susan Howard, Ken Kercheval and Mary Crosby from Dallas.

LEGEND AWARD

This award is presented to a television series which has stood the test of time and ranks among the most memorable and celebrated shows in TV history. TV Land will honor Cheers as this year’s recipient.

The most nominated series in history, Cheers garnered a total of: 27 Emmy Awards; 6 Golden Globe Awards and several awards from the Writers Guild of America and the Directors Guild of America. The staff at the Cheers bar in Boston, MA include: Sam Malone (Ted Danson), the owner and bartender and an ex-pitcher for the Boston Red Sox; Diane Chambers (Shelley Long), the waitress attending graduate school and Carla Tortelli LeBec (Rhea Pearlman), the wise-cracking waitress who had several kids and ex-husbands. Ernie “Coach” Pantusso (Nicholas Colasanto), an ex-baseball coach, helped Sam behind the bar until 1985 when the actor who portrayed him passed away and was replaced by Woody Boyd (Woody Harrelson), a naive and innocent bartender. Diane left in 1987 to write a novel and was replaced by Rebecca Howe (Kirstie Alley), a barmaid. The regular patrons include: accountant, Norm Peterson (George Wendt), local mailman with a knack for trivia, Cliff Clavin, (John Ratzenberger); psychologist, Dr. Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammar) and his wife, psychologist, Dr. Lillith Sternin (Bebe Neuwirth).

IMPACT AWARD

This award is given to a show that offered both entertainment and enlightenment, always striving for both humor and humanity, with comedy that reflected reality. This year’s recipient is Good Times.

The series, directed by Norman Lear, premiered on CBS on February 1, 1974 and was set in the projects on the South Side of Chicago. It follows the lives of the Evans family as they tackle such hardships as financial problems and discrimination. Florida Evans (Esther Rolle) is the quick witted matriarch of the household, while her loving husband, James (John Amos) is the breadwinner and proud father. Together, their successful parenting skills instill value, pride and morality in their three children who are often bickering. J.J., the eldest son, is an aspiring artist who became an instant hit with his catchphrase “Dyn-O-Mite.” Thelma, the teenage daughter grapples with school, dating and her two overly protective brothers while the youngest, Michael (Ralph Evans), delves into politics and education to become the family’s scholastic success. Willona Woods (Ja’net DuBois), family friend and next door neighbor, appears frequently in the Evans household and is always adding her wisdom and sarcasm.

POP CULTURE AWARD

This award is presented to a show that has crossed the line from television series to pop culture phenomenon. This year’s honoree is Dallas.

One of the most popular prime-time dramas in the history of television, Dallas began as a five part mini-series in 1978 but ended up lasting thirteen years, until 1991. Centered on the Ewing Family -- wealthy Texas oil millionaires -- the soap opera follows their lives on their sprawling South Fork ranch just outside of Dallas. Much of the show’s storylines revolve around money, power, intrigue, dysfunctional family dynamics and their love lives. Patriarch Jock Ewing created Ewing Oil, which was the family corporation. His wife, Miss Ellie, managed their home, Southfork Ranch, and they had three sons: - J.R. (Larry Hagman), the ruthless CEO of Ewing Oil, married to former Miss Texas Sue Ellen Shepard (Linda Gray); Bobby (Patrick Duffy), the nice guy, who marries Pamela Barnes (Victoria Principal), daughter of the Ewing's chief business rival; and Gary (played by David Ackroyd and then Ted Shackleford), considered an outcast by his father, who eventually moves to California with his wife Valene (Joan Van Ark). J.R. is almost always a scoundrel, and Bobby is the more honest of the two. The entire Ewing clan lives under one roof, causing more strife than family harmony. By the early 1980's, Dallas was one of the most popular shows in TV history and is often remembered as the show that began the nighttime drama trend that is so popular today.

40th ANNIVERSARY

One of the most memorable series of all times, Batman, celebrates its 40th Anniversary this year and will be honored at The TV Land Awards.

Adam West utilized a tongue-and-cheek portrayal of mysterious millionaire Bruce Wayne with his secret identity as the crime-fighting, bat-watusing Batman. Teamed with the effusively-tongued Robin played by Burt Ward, this crime-fighting duo seeks to keep the peace in Gotham City against an array of super-villains. Each one of these famous foes gains fame for their schemes. Each episode also features the unforgettable fight scenes against the super-villains punctuated by the now famous “Pow,” “Bang,” and “Thud,” that became trademarks of the series. Assisting Batman was his loyal butler, Alfred (Alan Napier), the embattled Police Commissioner Gordon (Neil Hamilton), Chief O’Hara (Stafford Repp), and in the latter episodes, the innocent librarian/crime-fighting Batgirl (Yvonne Craig).

TV Land has also asked viewers to log on to the network's Emmy-winning website, tvland.com to vote for a variety of fun categories including “Favorite Singing Sibling,” “Coolest Crime Fighting Team” and “Favorite Dream Sequence” with the winners to be announced and presented at the show. The voting is taking place on tvland.com, and will end on March 12. To date, traffic to tvland.com has increased 13% since the voting began.

In addition to M&M'S(r) Brand Chocolate Candies, other major sponsors include Capital One and Nestlé's HOT POCKETS® Brand SUBS.

Michael Levitt (Knots Landing Reunion: Together Again, TV Land Awards 2003, 2004 and 2005, Happy Days: 30th Anniversary Reunion) serves as Executive Producer, Emmy-award winning Glenn Weiss as Director (The Miss Teen USA Pageant 2005, BET Awards 2005, The 59th Annual Tony Awards 2005), Greg Sills as Supervising Producer (Knots Landing Reunion: Together Again, The Teen Choice Awards 2005, Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards 2005) and Sal Maniaci and Larry W. ABC's Grey's Anatomy Named Recipient of Eighth Annual 'TV Land Future Classic Award'

Cast Received Honor at TV Land Awards: A Celebration of Classic TV Airing Wednesday, March 22

SANTA MONICA, Calif., March 20 -- ABC's critically-acclaimed hit drama, Grey's Anatomy, was awarded this year's TV Land Future Classic Award tonight at the TV Land Awards: A Celebration of Classic TV in Santa Monica, CA. Creator and executive producer Shonda Rhimes, along with the cast of Grey's Anatomy, accepted the honor on behalf of the show. The award -- which TV Land unveiled in 1998 and is presented annually -- recognizes the one new show from the past calendar year which best exemplifies the qualities of an emerging television phenomenon that will endure for years to come. The TV Land Awards: A Celebration of Classic TV will air on TV Land and simulcasts on Nick at Nite on Wednesday, March 22 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

"Grey's Anatomy embodies the qualities of a true television classic," states Larry W. Jones, President, TV Land and Nick at Nite. "The show's complex and emotional storyline, as well as its amazing cast has made it one of the most important television shows to come along in years. TV Land would like to thank ABC, Shonda Rhimes and the entire cast and crew for making every episode of this series a weekly event we look forward to with anticipation. Of
all of 2005's freshmen shows, TV Land is thrilled to present Grey's Anatomy with the 2005 TV Land Future Classic Award."

"We are honored that TV Land has chosen Grey's Anatomy as their Future
Classic Award recipient," states Shonda Rhimes, creator and executive producer of the series. "TV Land has quickly established itself as a great home for the most loved series to air on television. As we continue to build upon a great start to Grey's Anatomy, we are thrilled to be honored by this
institution and look forward to one day joining their elite line up of fantastic television shows."

Grey's Anatomy is a primetime, hour-long drama centering around a group of new surgical interns battling the job, each other and life in general on a
daily basis at Seattle Grace Hospital, the toughest surgical residency program
west of Harvard. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) is a woman trying to lead a real life while doing a job that makes having a real life impossible. She and
fellow first-year interns Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh), Izzie Stevens (Katherine
Heigl), George O'Malley (T.R. Knight) and Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) were
students yesterday. Today they're doctors and, in a world where on the job
training can be a matter of life and death, they're all juggling the ups and
downs of their own personal lives.

The interns fight to maintain friendships in this most stressful and competitive atmosphere. Meredith's medical ambition is overshadowed by a
troubling secret: her mother, a noted pioneering surgeon, is suffering from a
tragic and devastating illness. Cristina is a study in contradiction; highly competitive and driven, she eschews any favors in order to make it on her own. Isobel "Izzie" Stevens, the small-town girl who paid for medical school by modeling in her underwear, battles for respect amongst her peers. George
O'Malley is the warm but insecure boy next door who always manages to do or say the wrong thing -- even in the O.R. Worse, in spite of his obvious
attraction to Meredith, he's treated as "just one of the girls." And Alex
Karev, the intern every intern loves to hate, masks his working class roots
with arrogance and ambition.

The interns are guided by an established team of doctors who are
determined to shape them into skilled surgeons or break them: Miranda Bailey
(Chandra Wilson), the senior resident responsible for training them, masks her
softer side with a demeanor so tough that she's the nicknamed "The Nazi."
Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) is the flirtatious but wildly talented
surgeon. Meredith thought he was her soul mate when the two began a forbidden sexual relationship, and is shocked when she discovers he is married to Dr. Addison Shepherd (Kate Walsh), a new doctor at the hospital. Preston Burke's (Isaiah Washington) arrogance is second only to his skill with a scalpel. He meets his match in Cristina when they begin a less romantic but equally forbidden relationship of their own. Overseeing them all is Dr. Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.), Seattle Grace's paternal but no-nonsense chief of surgery who harbors some secrets of his own concerning Meredith's mother.

Grey's Anatomy focuses on young people struggling to be doctors and
doctors struggling to stay human. It's the drama and intensity of medical
training mixed with the funny, sexy, painful lives of interns who are about to
discover that neither medicine nor relationships can be defined in black and
white. Real life only comes in shades of grey.

Shonda Rhimes (Introducing Dorothy Dandridge) is creator and executive
producer. Mark Gordon (Saving Private Ryan), Betsy Beers (Casanova), James
Parriott (The American Embassy) and Peter Horton (thirtysomething) are
executive producers. Grey's Anatomy is a Touchstone Television Production.

Comprised of various members of the TV Land staff, the Future Classic
Award selection committee reviews episodes of all new shows premiering
throughout the entire year. The committee then votes on the one show that TV Land feels best exemplifies an emerging classic series that would one day fit its broad mix of award-winning line-up ranging from The Andy Griffith Show to Good Times. Shows considered by the committee are based on the following criteria:

* Each show must have premiered between January 1 and December 1, 2005.
* No returning series are considered.
* Each show must be regularly featured in prime time.
* Each show must be a drama, sitcom, or sketch comedy series.

Previous winners of the Future Classic Award are Sports Night, The
Sopranos, Scrubs, Malcolm in the Middle, American Dreams, Arrested Development and Desperate Housewives.

The fourth annual TV Land Awards: A Celebration of Classic TV is presented by M&M'S(R) Brand Chocolate Candies. Other major sponsors include Capital One, Dell and Nestle's HOT POCKETS(R) Brand SUBS.

to transform himself, Caesar has proven himself as a master of mime, dialects,
monologues, foreign language double-talk and creating the unforgettable
characters that peopled his comic sketches. TV Land honors Sid Caesar with The Pioneer Award for being one of the undisputed founding fathers of television comedy. Billy Crystal presented Sid Caesar with this award.

I am glad they are honoring Sid Caesar, he deserves it. There are a lot better shows they could have honored for Pop Culture than Cheers

"Dallas" won the Pop Culture award, not "Cheers".

And "Cheers" definitely deserves the Legend Award.

Pav, I know this is probably the wrong place to ask, but do you know if TV Land has/is planning on renewing "The Dick Van Dyke Show?" I read it expires in August at the TVLand.com boards.

Thanks!

Wow, though, sounds like TV Land could be losing a lot of shows!

OK thanks Pav.

According to TheLink, MacGyver, The Munsters, Addams Family, Green Acres, Dick Van Dyke, and Happy Days all expire this year. Not to mention Bewitched and Jeannie, which are already confirmed leaving. They'll have to renew at least a couple of those, if none were renewed I don't see how they would fill those timeslots.

Also Hunter & SCTV.

By the end of the year, 12 shows total may have expired from the line-up (including Mister Ed & Carol Burnett from earlier this year)

We already know they aren't renewing Bewitched & I Dream of Jeannie, but out of the other 8...
Addams Family
Dick Van Dyke Show
Green Acres
Happy Days
Hunter
MacGyver
Munsters
SCTV

I would guess Dick Van Dyke, MacGyver, and The Musters have the best shot at being renewed.
Maybe Green Acres and Happy Days.
Very unlikely with Addams Family, Hunter, SCTV

I asked TVLTheLink which shows were expiring and when, and this was his response:

Here are the shows with contract expirations in 2006:
The Addams Family (September 30th)
Bewitched (May 31st) - will not be renewed
Dick Van Dyke (August 31st)
Green Acres (August 31st)
Happy Days (December 31st)
Hunter (September 31st)
I Dream of Jeannie (May 31st) - will not be renewed
MacGyver (December 31st)
Musters (October 31st)
SCTV (September 25th)

I think The Munsters and Happy Days have a good chance. I can't imagine TV Land without Dick Van Dyke it's been on there for so long, I can see them renewing that. Considering Addams is only on Sundays I wouldn't expect it to be renewed, same case with Hunter. SCTV isn't even on anymore, so I don't see them renewing that at all. MacGyver is already on another Viacom channel, Spike, so I don't know about that one. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out.

MacGyver is actually leaving Spike TV (next week I think). It has seemed to do fair on both networks. I don't know if both of them suddenly reducing it/cutting it out has to do with ratings or contract issues (its been played quite a bit).
I think it has a chance but not as much as Dick Van Dyke and The Munsters.

I see Happy Days being renewed before Green Acres, but I still have some doubts. Something tells me its ratings may not match its pricetag. Along with The Brady Bunch, it doesn't seem to be quite the syndicated hit it was back in its days on Nick@Nite.
