My older brother told me if I skip, it's best to do it as a freshman. That way, the rest of the years you will catch up and graduate on time. Alot of people wait until they get to the 12th grade to start skipping, putting their graduation in jeopardy.

Well, If you had the teachers I have, you'd skip too. I am not a dummy, I am just not motivated to go to classes. For 6 hours, it's just me and my buddy, and some hot girls if we can find any.

i would look in to the graduation requirements for your school to see if that's true rather than listening to something that someone said. at my school your grades are as important in your freshman year as they are in your senior year.

At my HS it was nearly impossible to skip without your parents eventually finding out. The administration would go all out to locate your parents and tell them you weren't in school and demand to know why. That's the main reason I never skipped. I don't understand how kids keep getting away with it. If you keep going on like you are you're just going to fall behind and it will be harder next year for you to keep going to class everyday when you are so used to skipping all the time.

No, Ireneparalegal, that's not what I meant. they don't MAKE us skip class. I meant the way the teachers are, they make you don't want to be there. They are too demanding, if if you ask me, they teach at a college level.

dude, it's best to not do it at all. :rolleyes: But, I have been in your situation, I am a sophomore, but I skipped ONCE in freshman year, it was 4th period I skipped, you see at my school 4th period has all of the lunches, it has "A Lunch" "B Lunch" and "C Lunch" and I had "A Lunch" in freshman year, so instead of going to 4th period, I stayed throughout all of the lunches! I hung out with my friends who have B and C Lunch and weren't in my lunch, big mistake, I got a detention, but I didn't get caught, this kid in my 4th period saw me at B Lunch and he ratted me out :( But I guess I deserved it. Skipping is wrong! I will tell you now, if you want a good start and go to college, than go to classes, I mean that is what school is for. Isn't it?

No, it's not me. the first week of school, I knew my math teacher was a hard ass. just the way she presented herself was discouraging. I go to my classes at least 2-3 times a week maximum. it's not like they don't know what I look like.

I don't wanna preach to you, but skipping school regularly at ANY grade is not wise at all. What you do now can develop into bad unhealthy habits. I really hate school and life in general right now, but my motivation to keep on is knowing that my education will take me far in life, no matter how hard things are. In New York City, teacers don't care if you don't show. With my English teacher, my friend bought him a bagel every day he showed up and passed with a 65. I can't afford to cut because I've failed classes while showing up every day.

if you are going get up to go to school and then skip you may as well go to class because its prob. more exciting then whatever you are doing...see for me getting up was the hardest thing in the morning, otherwise school wasnt that bad...but if I wanted to skip I would have my parents write me a note and generally I would sleep thur first period which is 90 mins and a bitch if you have a bad class and because I worked in the office during soph. year I was friends with one of the secretarys and she dismissed me whenever I wanted...haha but anyways the point is go to class for most of time, get good grades and then you can end up at a kick ass college like me....basically

I am just wrapping up my last year of gen ed/journalism courses in college, I just started my 3rd year of college so it will take me two more full school years to get my bachelors degree. Gen ed courses in college are basically review classes of what you learned in high school...But I have had to take major-specific courses that were, to put it bluntly, a pain in the ass. I still have days where I wish I was back in high school because I miss the daily routine-ness of the day and having all my classes daily, as opposed to a few times a week in college. Oh...and did I mention tuition AND PAYING for books?? God, that has to be my least fave part about being in college. Stupid tuition and books. :cuss:

It's not "okay" or "better" to skip freshman year, for the possibility of failing your classes and having to stay back. It's still school your missing, a whole year of education.

Doesn't your school have rules that if you miss so many days with no excuse you fail... and believe me, if your missing your classes 2-3 times a week, over 9 weeks that's 18-27 days, that's more than the amount your allowed to miss per SEMESTER here.

So, if you fail the classes, then your in the exact same hole.

One thing I learned in middle school, if you give your teachers respect, they willl give you their respect. You don't treat your parents like you do them do you?

I had a $98 biology book that was used when I purchased it last semester- I got $65 back on it...I didn't break even, but it was still nice that I got more than $30 for it. Heh. I had a brand-new sociology book that I sold to the bookstore (I think it was $50) and I only got $16 for it. :soapbox:

College books in general just put me in a bad mood, be it the start or end of the semester. PSH.

You're giving up way too easily. Failing class is at least a little bit more respectable than throwing in the towel altogether. From what I can gather, you sound like you have the potential to do a lot better than just failing. Give it a shot.

Exactly! At my college, they seem to change the procedure for buying books every single semester. When I started college in January 2004, everything was still in paper format. Then EVERYTHING changed that fall, but they were still doing a paper format... it was really confusing. The last two semesters (both in '05) have had the same procedure, as with this semester. But they still change things around.

I am 40 years old and I miss high school and all those young years. I just hope that the rest of you in school/college, etc. keep up the stamina, determination and hard work and not let pure laziness get the best of you. I had gone back to college in my late 20's and I was so glad, so happy and so determined to get my career going. There's nothing like accomplishing a goal, like education and being self-reliant.
