I would've made this a poll, but there can be many arguements for this question as there were in the episode, "The Soup."

Do you call soup a meal? With crumbled crackers (I'm more partial to this one), a tuna sandwich, a tuna sandwich with soup, a tuna sandwich with soup with crumbled crackers? The meal out of those I would have to say would be the last one, as it's a sandwich with a soup or salad (side dish, soup in this case) and crackers are included as a "nosh" or as a possible ingredient for the soup.

Do you agree with Jerry? Is Soup The Meal? Post your thoughts in this thread that is the only one of its kind that gives you the option to seek justice in the soup industry! (or freedom of speech at these message boards, lol)

Kramer- "Well, Did He Crumble Crackers?"
Jerry- "I think so."
Kramer- "Then that's a meal!"

By "the meal", I presume you meant soup alone?

Was his soup a meal? If it has a sandwich with it yeah.
As for a general question: Is soup a meal? Yeah, if you love hispanic food and you eat Menudo, Pozole, Albondigas (meatball soup) man, those soups are so damn good, they are A MEAL. You can eat them all day long!!!!! Damn, I am making myself hungry.

When Jerry took Banya out, he ordered the soup, therefore that was the meal. I have been known to have just soup for lunch or dinner.

I agree with what Jerry said in the episode. "The Meal" was the act of sitting down to eat with him at the restaurant of his choosing. Banya could've ordered whatever he wanted. He chose the soup.

In fact, that's what this episode should have been titled...."The Meal" :)

I've always agreed with Jerry in this episode and I get annoyed because Elaine wasn't thinking about it the right way. The act of eating at a fancy restaurant with Banya fulfilled the meal requirement. Like the above poster said Banya could have ordered anything he wanted.

I agree with all of you 100%

If Banya didn't want to use up his so called "meal" that day, he should of never went with Jerry in the first place...but only when he would be ready to sit down and eat what he really wanted to eat.

I don't think soup is a meal. Soup alone is not a meal.

remember that very season that Elaine had a big salad for lunch and considered that a meal, if salad can be called a meal, so should soup :)

SOUP IS THE MEAL.
"This is the meal!"

You wouldn't even want to have a 10 minute coffee break with Bania let alone an hour or more in a fancy restaurant, ahaha.

I just loved the way Elaine analyzed (over-analyzed?) the question "is soup a meal?"

"What kind of soup did he get?"
"Did he crumble any crackers in it?"

She was great!

But to answer the question, yes, soup is a meal, and it doesn't matter what kind of soup it is... sometimes you just feel like having soup and nothing else, and in those cases, that's the meal...

YES!!! I definitely count just soup as a meal, though sometimes I eat a grilled cheese sandwich with it. Perfect for those chilly, gray days. :D

Oh man, that's the only way I can eat tomato soup, is with a grilled cheese!

Of course I'm going to take Jerry's side over Banya's but I think it kind of depends on what kind of soup it is. I mean, if it's a hearty soup and you eat it alone, then yes, I would consider that a meal. But if it's something like chicken soup, then I would want something to go with it.

Soup can be a meal as long as it's served with something else (bread, for example)
