View Full Version : My computer has problems

I was wondering if any of you computer wizzes out there could help me out. I'm pretty sure my computer is afflicted with spyware or some other ailment because everytime I do a search on yahoo or google and I click one of the results I am automatically transported to lycos or some other search engine. I have also been getting annoying popups that aren't being blocked. If anyone has any ideas on how to solve this I'd be quite thankful.

first things first - download and run Spybot (http://tinyurl.com/37t9f), AdAware (http://tinyurl.com/du0h), and CoolWebShredder (http://tinyurl.com/5lstv) and clean everything they find.

next download HijackThis! (http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html) http://216.180.233.162/~merijn/files/HijackThis.exe - run it and post a log for me here.

Get Norton Anti-Virus software 2006 by clicking here (http://www.symantec.com).

Stompsoft Spyware X-Terminator 2005, click here (http://www.stompsoft.com/spywarexterminator.html).

You can download for free for a limited free subscription. After that, I think it's $11 or $12 for one year, your best deal is two years for $22 for updates and computer protection.

Hope that helps! :)

Stompsoft Spyware X-Terminator 2005, click here (http://www.stompsoft.com/spywarexterminator.html).

that program got mostly horrible reviews, it really isnt worth paying for when the free programs do a much better job without messing up your system, read THIS review by PCWorld magazine: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,1829289,00.asp

http://www.pcmag.com/images/pcm_large_1_5_dot.gif

BOTTOM LINE:
Despite its tough-guy name, Spyware X-terminator was completely ineffective at blocking spyware and did a poor job of removing spyware from an infested system. It offers no data about found threats beyond a severity level rating. We can't recommend it, especially given the number of superior products available.

and if I recall, they were actually caught ripping off detection codes from Spybot...

I ran Spybot and AdAware scans and that hasn't solved the problem but I do have hijackthis, heres the log:

You can go to Geekstogo (http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/index.php?)

And post your HJT Log there and they will help you fix your problem in no time.

some notes on your Hijack This log:
- it looks like there is definately a Trojan in there, with some files I can't identify, and there may also be a Rootkit on there as well, the stuff that bothers me is:

I would honestly suggest you update your antivirus program and try to run it in safemode, then post your HijackThis log over at the SpywareInfo forums (http://forums.spywareinfo.com/) or Geekstogo as suggested by Brieannas21 - what you are infected with is bigger than I can fairly devote enough time to fix properly.
