I recall that week very well in 1992 when the Los Angeles riots erupted. There was nothing but news on every channel here where I live. I live in Ventura County. It's a 45 minute drive to Los Angeles. It seemed we couldn't get away from what was being shown on television. It was devastating and horrific. I was 28 at the time and wondering why the verdict had gone so wrong.
Anyhow, I recall watching KNBC and the anchorman referencing to the fact that we are being bombarded with footage after footage of mankind at it's worst, etc. He was very somber. Then he said, "We want to take you back to time when Thursday nights were abt laughter and families. We will air The Cosby Show." It felt so good to watch the show. With all that had happened, and with all that was still going on, and not knowing what laid ahead, it was great watching the first of the two-part finale. If there was ever a time that the Cosby Show really put a smile on my face, it was that night. The episode may not have been it's funniest or it's best, but it felt good to watch something that helped to take our minds off of what was going on, if even for a little while.

I will be receiving the NBC ep of the Cosby Show in a couple of weeks. I thought you were saying the Episode was interrupted to show News Footage

I was 12 and I lived far away from the riots, so it wasn't really breaking news here until later on. I remember watching the series finale, which was probably the first time I actually watched the show in the 91-92 season, when it aired though.

Yeah, I guess the only ones who would know abt this would be those who lived in and around Los Angeles. Every channel had the riots airing. It was like when 9/11 happened and there was nothing but footage and news abt the attacks. Same here abt the riots. We couldn't change the channel without seeing the news and the footage.

You can only watch so much of that. I would watch a little each day, but then I would watch something else or I would have gone crazy.

That was the week that many shows had their season premiere. EVerything was pushed back a week because of the 9/11 coverage. I can understand why they did that, but at the same time, had they gone ahead and aired the regular shows' season premieres, it would have been welcome relief.

They could have aired any updates about the situation during commercial breaks. I think sometimes the news goes overboard, especially when something really bad or tragic happens. They keep airing the same footage over and over, with commentary and rehashing of the event.

I'm not trying to diminish what happened on 9/11, because that was the most tragic thing to happen to this country in my lifetime and I will never forget it. Just saying that life goes on.

It's such a touchy subject. Of course I want to be informed, and I guess eventually we will be told of anything new. The thing with each of those "incidents" is that it was not only informing us of what had happened, but also letting us be aware of anything we need to know in the event of certain things. For example, with the riots, certain off-ramps were closed and alot of commuters needed that info. Certain areas were deeply affected by the riots and of course, anyone planning to go to L.A. needed to know where it was safe and not safe to travel.
