View Full Version : What career, job or profession did / or do you want to work in?
Ireneparalegal 01-10-2006, 05:57 PM Are you doing what you wanted to do in life?
Up until I was 17, I had wanted to be a nurse like my sister. I wanted to help people get better. Something happened when I was 17 and then my whole perception of what I wanted to do with my life changed. I wanted to be a police officer. I had studied my a$$ off, went to college and took the necessary course for police training. I had applied every year for the job and always fell short on the physical portion of the examination that is required. A mere three seconds on the agillity course would doom me. I then applied for the State of California to be a corrections officer in a prison. I HAD SUCCEEDED! I passed everything! I was sooo damn excited. BUT then I found out I was pregnant and I had to be removed from the waiting list.:( I figured after a year of giving birth I would try out again. However, in my 8th month of pregnancy I was in a car crash and injured my back. I couldn't do the physical agility test to the best of my ability no more.
I still wanted something in law, which is when I decided to go back to college again and majored in being a paralegal. Which is what I still do today. I love it.
dawsongirl 01-10-2006, 06:01 PM Well, like sooooo many others, I wanted to be an actress. But that was totally unrealistic.
For a long time I wanted to be a meteorologist. I used to watch the Weather Channel all day. But then I got to college and took calculus and flunked it, so I thought, nah. Besides, I no longer have any desire to be on TV.
Nighthawk76 01-10-2006, 06:06 PM When I was a little kid I wanted to be a bus driver.
Chad Michael Murray 01-10-2006, 06:55 PM For a while, I thought about going to school to study professional wrestling, and try my hand at that. But unless you really hit it big AND become one of the top guys in the company, you barely make enough to keep yourself alive. Plus all of the injuries, etc.
Then I also thought about being a police officer for a while, like Irene. I still think sometimes what it might be like, but my girlfriend doesn't approve at ALL and that's way more important to me.
EmoJoe 01-10-2006, 07:20 PM I wanna be a writer.
Ireneparalegal 01-10-2006, 08:31 PM When I was a little kid I wanted to be a bus driver.

rjb182 01-10-2006, 08:33 PM I wanted to be a paleontologist.
Actually I think I just liked impressing adults by being able to say paleontologist. ;)
Courtnee 01-10-2006, 08:35 PM I want to be a musican or a teacher....
Ireneparalegal 01-10-2006, 08:42 PM I am always fascinated by people who want to be teachers. I think it's such a noble profession and yet, they don't get the recognition they deserve. Bravo Rock Princess!!!!

Number 9 Dream 01-10-2006, 08:51 PM I've always wanted to be a writer-- ever since I was little, I was writing stories in any notebook I could find around the house :D Then, in about 10th grade, I decided I wanted to try my hand at psychology (I began to get interested in the field through books I read, classes I took, people I knew ;) ) I still want to do that to some extent, but I think I was just born to be a writer. It's the only talent I have  So, now I'm an English major and a minor in psychology :)
PZelda 01-10-2006, 08:52 PM I wanted to be soooo many different things growing up. I eventually settled on something to do with writing -- journalism. I am not good at writing fiction stories but I am good at writing non-fiction stories... so, journalism. I hope to one day be an editor for one of the major newspapers... that would be fun :D

I'm just the opposite-- I love to write fiction but the idea of journalism just doesn't appeal to me :D I wouldn't mind giving it a try, though.
Nighthawk76 01-10-2006, 09:20 PM school bus or city bus?
so what do you do?
I wanted to drive a school bus. I thought they rocked.
I was a history teacher who worked with kids with learning disabilities, but now I am back in school.

:yeahthat I was once a journalism major. I hated every minute of it.
WhoStheBoss_Fan 01-10-2006, 10:48 PM I have always wanted to act. I have been told by many producers and people in the field in Hollywood to get an agent but I haven't yet, I am studying to be a nurse right now.
Jaguar 01-10-2006, 10:54 PM This is a cool message board! I want to become a policeman.

Same here.
CollegeDropout 01-11-2006, 01:53 AM well currently I am a communications major and I hope to go to business grad school, focus on marketing and possibly do something within that field...if not other aspects of business interest me such as real estate and business law (both my parents work in law...) but I am pretty creative, my lit teacher first semester commented on my writing when we had to write a short story, despite lacking actually ability to draw, I am creative and a comedian, so I would love to write a novel. To be honest even at 19, I have started many novels because I am witty and I enjoy conveying that in writing....but yeah whatever I am doing hopefully i will be happy and racking in the dough
~*Hannah_Lee*~ 01-11-2006, 01:55 AM I'm kind of undecided right now...I am wanting to go into either pre-pharmacy or pre-medicine next year. So I guess I will major in science (probably biology or chemistry), but I'm gonna minor in business that way I know how to run my own office.
If I become a pharmacist, I want to be able to maybe run my own private pharmacy or apothecary.
And if I decide to go the extra few years and become a pediatrician, I want to know how to handle an office....I have to know and understand what's going on with my business, it would drive me crazy.
GARFIELDKOOL 01-11-2006, 11:24 AM That's an interesting story, Irene. I use to want to be a teacher, because my 5th grade teacher, who was my favorite, inspired me. Then I wanted to be for a short time a cop, then a fireman. Then, I wanted to be a journalist, because my english teachers in high school told me I had good writing skills. So I took up a little journalism when I went to college. I dropped out, but I may go back in the future.
Karen* 01-11-2006, 12:09 PM When I was little, I wanted to be either a teacher, writer, or a singer/actress. The last two are things I still dream about though. I want to become a journalist because it's something I'm passionate about (Even though I'm also considering broadcast journalism) and I'm also considering doing a double major or a minor in theater arts.
YoliUSA 01-11-2006, 04:11 PM Well, I would like to be a lawyer. I would also like to be a producer, talent agent or something related to show business, but that's kind of a longshot:(
phoebe7165 01-11-2006, 04:17 PM I wanted to be a band director. I was really into band and music and I was picked as student conductor in my senior year. What held me back? Dollar signs got in my eyes. I knew teachers didn't make that much money and I didn't want to struggling financially, even if it was doing something I that I wanted to do.
