I must say I was really disappointed with the Viv Visits Lucy episode- the first time Viv returns after so long and they come up with some crazy plot to talk some sense into some guy we've never even heard of before. I was expecting a little more from this particular episode, maybe an episode that actually focused on Viv?? Lucy and Mary Jane could have easily done this plot but I thought they would have chosen something a little more special for Viv's return.

I thought it was OK, it's definately not what I thought it would be. I liked the Here's Lucy "With Viv as a Friend, Who Needs an Enemy?" episode more.

My favorite of the Lucy Shows has to be when they reminisce about earlier episodes, including black and white clips from the first season of the Lucy Show (1962-63). Originally, I had read, Viv wanted them to reminisce all the way back to 1951!

My favorite of the 6 guest appearances Viv did on Here's Lucy, Lucy The Matchmaker, was the very first one, where a computer dating company matches Viv with Harry (Gale Gordon). The second half of the show is almost comparabale to some of the later I Love Lucys. And the surprise ending was great!

In general, I especially like the Here's Lucys when Harry does NOT yell at Lucy. That yelling all the time got tired pretty quick, and Lucy should be clever and shrewd, not dumb.

I think Viv's appearance on Here's Lucy with Lawrence Welk was very funny. Welk was actually very funny, for a guy that I always remembered was pretty dull.

I always tend to think of Lucy and Viv remembering as that show's finale. I know it wasn't--in my mind, I like to view it as such. Plays a lot better than that lousy "Boss of the Year" episode, where IMO, Mr Cheever was so immature about losing the award.

Was this the episode were Lucy & Viv dressed up like hippies? If its the same one, I thought it was kind of cute.

I thought they did the episode to attract a younger viewing audience, with the 'hip' dances, lingo, and lifestyle.
But the guy that they went to visit was actually sort of a snake, just pretending to be like the others, for a school project.

I wanted to bring back this old thread.

"Viv Visits Lucy" was a reasonably good and well-written episode in my opinion. At times, lots of other series like Petticoat Junction, My Three Sons, and The Beverly Hillbillies all addressed lifestyle and cultural differences among the generations, so it's not surprising that the subject matter got played up in a way on The Lucy Show. The Viv episode was about as creative in its approach as any of those, if not moreso.

It's interesting to see some cultural 'norms' if you will going through the eras: In the late '50s and very early '60s, a guy with long hair or facial hair tended to be labeled a beatnik. Later on, longer hair became more common, but a guy with really long hair would be frowned upon and immediately presumed to be a hippie.

My Three Sons really focused on the men's hair issue; when the son-in-law of Ray Wong was introduced, he had long hair and wore beads. Ray: "That hair!" (This was similar to "My Big Fat Greek Wedding.") Ray accepts him more readily after his daughter produces a new baby boy. The Lucy episode reminds me a little of some others in which people perceived to be freaky actually turn out to be pretty 'normal.'

I thought it was a very funny episode. As I recall, pretty much all of Viv's returns to Lucy's shows were good. As far as I am concerned, Lucy and Viv could have gotten in front of a camera with an audience and read a phone book and it would have been classic!

I actually thought this was one of the memorable and better entries of that (1966-67) season. The lines were hysterical:

Vivian (trying to be hip): Hi, I'm Vi

Lucy: I'm Loose.....er, Lucy
