View Full Version : Season 1 squares.. Bobby
Waterston_Fan 01-09-2006, 08:54 PM I noticed a thing or two about Mike and Robert on the squares...
I noticed that Robert shakes his head not looking too happy.
Mike looks like he's scared to death of Robert.. If you have the first season DVD, you'll know what I mean as to him looking and shaking his head in fright..
Did you guys notice that Alice never looks around on any season?

Robert wasn't to fond of some of the things that when on during the show, and this was definatly one of them. For the most part, he didn't even try to look happy.
As for Alice, it's hard to say why they didn't want her to look around. Maybe it had something to do with her not being a "Brady."
erin05 01-10-2006, 12:14 AM haha i know wat u mean. and in the second/third season jan looks at alice like shes nuts!

I always noticed that abt Robert. I assume that was done for a reason. I can't imagine the producers allowing Robert to have that look and leaving it that way. Also, Mike can't see Robert as the actors/actresses were filmed INDIVIDUALLY. It only seems as if they are looking at each other within their "squares".

What's even funnier is that they didn't leave it that way. Sometime during the first season, Robert's clip in the final seconds of the opening was redited and looped so that his really exasperated look is edited out. His head looks like it jerks suddenly, but they're actually looping the video. It's subtle, but check out the opening for "The Honeymoon" and compare to a late first-season episode opening.
erin05 01-10-2006, 03:18 PM hahaha look at us picking apart the open credits :D:lol:

The bit with Bobby is speeded up so that he can then look back at the camera before the next part of the credits starts with Mike and Carol. Watch Bobby in the opening credits when we see all the kids together and you will see the same sequence of his looking towards Mike at the normal speed.
FredScuttle 01-22-2006, 09:59 PM Marcia looks like she might be sped up a little too, when she looks away from Carol. Another thing about season 1 credits, watch during the closing credits...they looped the video back and forth so all their heads bob repeatedly back and forth...makes it look sorta creepy ;)
oh, back to the opening theme, anyone ever notice the "farting" sound
around "and they knew" on season 1?

I suspect that they were pressed for time and that's why it was left in. Robert Reed was not always cooperative and he really hated the squares.
I think the funniest thing about the squares is Robert Reed's hiccup in the fourth season.

Do you have any idea what Robert hated about the squres?

I guess because he thought it was corny or slapstick. There are a lot of things I never understood about him!

For the things that I have read and heard about him, he was a bit of a stick in the mud! At one point he was reported to have said that the reason that he was not going to be in the final episode was that he thought it was "Gilligan's Island in the Suberbs"! What an attitude!
