What's been the most expensive set that you've seen, and how much was it? Did you, or would you, buy it?

The most expensive one I've bought has been The A-Team for $50 but I've seen DVDs up to $100. I'd never buy them.

with a retail price between 139.99 and 149.99, I think the Star Trek franchise takes the cake, especially since the first season of Voyager was only a mini-season yet they still want that much. Forget Sony and relatively inexpensive sets like Sanford And Son and All In The Family, the Star Trek sets would be a good idea to have a "Buy one, get one free" special on.

When they first came out, The X-Files sets were also $149.99... but they were then dropped to $99.99, but as of later this month, seasons 1-3 will be reduced to $49.99, while seasons 4-9 will be dropped in months to follow.

this of course, are season sets I mean, $299.99 for the entire Friends and Sex And The City series are a whole another ballpark since you can get the sets seperately for much cheaper than the price as a whole.

Quoted in agreement. I wouldn't spend over $45.00 on a dvd set. The most expensive season set I got was STDS9 season 1&2 for 97.00 including shipping from Ebay. As a general rule, I try not to go over 42 dollars. That's why I can't get other ST series, too expensive.

I don't see why Paramount won't do a "buy one, get one free" special for. I mean, Sony shows that retail for $30 have those sales going on... a Star Trek show would be one that people would really be interested in a B1G1-free sale

Maybe they will finally listen, people petitioned for years for Fox to lower the price on The X-Files and they're finally doing so

Season 1- Issue 1- I Love Lucy

Lucy is definately worth it, but consumers definately CAN'T afford 130 dollars for one set. That list price was ridiculous. I laid low and waited for the re-issue and just bought it last Sunday for only 41.99 and boy is it worth it! In addition to the great 35 episodes, you get the lost pilot, 13 episodes of a radio series that Lucy starred in (My Favorite Husband), alot of audio excerpts read by Larry Dobkin, production notes, guest stars, flubs, lost scenes, behind-the-scenes footage, photo galleries in slideshow form, Original Openings, animated sequences, Script Excerpts, other language tracks, song selections, scene selections, and more!

But 130 dollars for issue one? Come on PHE, give us a price break! Trek fans get screwed for 130 dollars every time a set for that show comes out as well.

I agree on the Star Trek sets. The original Star Trek is probably my all time favorite show, but I'll never be able to afford the DVD's. I'm not a die hard fan so I'm not going to throw away over $100 (I've seen them for $199 a set) on one set when I can get other sets for 1/4 the price and probably complete a whole series for the amount of 1 Star Trek set. Outragous!

I was at a local Best Buy in Lakewood, California a couple of months before Christmas and saw that complete collection for Sex and the City at that said price. "The Complete Monty Python's Flying Circus" I saw at a local Suncoast Motion Picture Company store (in the Lakewood Center Mall) would set you back $199.99.

Pat, where did you see the collection? Was it one of those 9CD sets in a huge box with 4 episodes per disc?

Seasons 2-5 are available and you can get them a lot cheaper at Best Buy or perhaps Target for may be at or about $40 or so. It's good you made that decision. If you wait on seasons 2-5 you'll soon expand the collection quickly. I read season 6 will be released in May 2006, so you're collection will be complete in time for summer.

To see the I Love Lucy box set (seasons 1-5) with a price of $215.88, click here (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=14461325&type=product&id=1447750).

I'd never spend that much. I'd just tape them off HBO and Showtime. Thats what I'm going to do with Deadwood because that show is about $100. and besides they're uncut on those channels.

The Monkees. $80. For what you get, that's criminally insane. Season one had the discs in these cardboard slip covers. No way in hell am I paying $80 to have my discs in a ****ing slip cover.

They lowered the price of QAF seasons 1 and 2, so if you've been looking for those you should be able to find them cheaper. They've done a tv commercial promoting the price reduction on those sets.

That's what I've done with Sex and The City, The Wire, Six Feet Under and Barbershop, though I did buy the Sopranos sets.

Sex And The City and Curb Your Enthusiasm aren't too insanely priced considering they're HBO, even though the last 3 S&TC sets were kinda nuts because season 5 was very short (it was abbreviated to accomidate Sarah Jessica Parker's pregnancy) and season 6 was split in two sets so you paid twice as much for the whole season, although at least you could get the sets for $30 at Target and Wal-Mart. I recently traded my old sets in and it helped pay for the complete series box set. Nothing too special that's new on the set but the new packaging is nicer because I hated the plastic cases that the old sets came in.

Image's original Twilight Zone sets are also way too expensive.

I already owned seasons two, three, and four when I purchased season one. And they were cheap, except I paid list price for season 2. But getting season 3 for a present and season 4 for around 40, it ended up evening out. I was referring to the bulky 9 disc set that had 4 episodes on each disc, yes.
