I love her. I always have. I love her more as an actress than a singer/rapper/hip-hop artist. She is the first hip-hop artist and the first female hip-hop artist to be crowned with a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame. I don't like alot of the stars who have received "stars" in the past...i even made a thread abt it. But she represents alot of what women in the business are trying to establish: RECOGNITION. She is not only a singer and actress, she is also a producer and a spokesperson for several companies.
I loved her performance in "Chicago". She is a remarkable actress, not afraid to try diverse characters.
I wish I didn't have to work, I would have loved to go and see her get her star.

Actress Queen Latifah to be Honored with
1st Hollywood Walk Of Fame Star of 2006

HOLLYWOOD, CA – Queen Latifah will be
honored with the 2,298th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
on January 4, 2006, at 11:30 a.m. The star will be unveiled in
front of the historic Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, 6915
Hollywood Boulevard.

Johnny Grant, Chairman of the Walk of Fame Committee, will
preside over the event and Leron Gubler, President/CEO of the
Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will speak on behalf of the
organization.

Queen Latifah received rave reviews, an Oscar® nomination for
Best Supporting Actress, a Golden Globe nomination and a
SAG Award nomination for her portrayal as Mama Morton in
Miramax’s “Chicago.” Following that, she starred in Disney’s
box office hit “Bringing Down the House,” on which she also
acted as executive producer through her company, Flavor Unit
Entertainment. She most recently starred in and produced
the “Barbershop” spin-off “Beauty Shop.” Along with the 2004
comedy “Taxi,” her other films include “Set It Off,” “Living Out
Loud,” “Brown Sugar,” “Bone Collector” and “Jungle Fever,” her
film debut.

Queen Latifah is currently starring in the Paramount Pictures
film, “Last Holiday,” which will be released nationwide on
January 13.

Her career in films was launched by the success of her first
television series, “Living Single,” now in syndication.

Latifah teamed with Grammy Award-winning producer Arif
Mardin as well as Ron Farin to release her first vocal album,
Queen Latifah – The Dana Owens Album, which has sold over
a million copies and received a Grammy nomination. The New
Jersey native burst onto the scene through rap with her ground
breaking 1989 debut All Hail the Queen, which set the visual
and contextual standard for female rappers. She has earned
three Grammy nominations as well as a Grammy Award for
Best Solo Rap Performance in 1994.

A performer, label president, author and entrepreneur, Queen
Latifah has blossomed into a one-woman entertainment
conglomerate. She formed, with manager Sha-Kim Compere,
Flavor Unit Entertainment, which produced last fall’s
comedy “The Cookout” and the above-mentioned “Beauty
Shop.”

She also serves as co-chair for the Lancelot H. Owens
Scholarship Foundation, Inc. Established by her mother, Rita
Owens, to perpetuate the memory of a loving son and brother,
the foundations provides scholarships to students who excel
scholastically, but are limited in financial resources.

a lot of people hate her but I don't understand it. I don't like hip hop but from the first time I saw Queen Latifah doing "Ladies First" on MTV way back in 1989 or 1990, I liked her and knew she had a future in store. I think she deserves it, she's truly talented and multifaceted.

I am happy that she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She has truly deserved it. I think she is a great role model for girls who are considered to be plus-size or curvaceous.

I agree. I think she looks really pretty in the Wal-Mart commercials she's doing, she's looking great.

my boyfriend doesn't really care for hip-hop music and such, but he really likes Queen Latifah. He is always commenting how beautiful she is and how well she appears in formal gowns and casual clothes. She selects things very well to wear and it looks so nice on her. Alot of people don't carry their wardrobe very well. She is mos definitely a QUEEN and a Lady!

Dana Owens (note I did not call her by her stoo-pid stage name) getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame? What a laugh.

Allow me for speaking frankly and critically on Her Majesty. I acutally like Owens when she first emerged from East Orange, New Jersey, a two-dollar-bus ride away from my hoetownm, but her appeal quickly wore thin as she got way too Afroentric and way too self-important.

I won't knock her for her attitude - accusing a New Jerseyan of attitude is like accusing a ballerina of dancing on her toes. But if attitude determined greatness, my sister would be a big movie star. Owens talks out of both sides of her big mouth; she talks about uplifting the black race , then appears on Living Single. She does TV specials about racism in America and raps about sexism in America,m then makes movies depitcing white men as buffoons. (Taxi, anyone?) She talks about black empowerment then does ads for. . . Wal-Mart? Hello? Wal-Mart?? When was the last time the American Negro, be it as a shopper or as an employee, ever felt empowered at Wal-Mart?

Ah, well, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame isn't like getting an appointment to the Paris Conservatoire. But the next time Owens - who's done two or three TV shows for the network owned by the same company that owns the racist Fox News - talks an more about uplifitng the race, I don't want to hear it. :p

I'm sure her new movie will be out on DVD while I'm still ignoring it in the theaters.

True story: When my sister weas nine - she's two days older than Dana Owens - I was trying to get into my mother's car in the shopping center when my sister yelled out, "LADIES FIRST!" and elbowed me in the gut to make me step aside. (It worked. OUCH! My gut!) To think my sis could have been a hip-hop star if she knew the right people!
