Once again, apologies in advance if this is a repeat or otherwise extraneous thread.
A Czech girl helped 15 US Airforcemen hide during WWII when their aircraft went down. She contacted the resistance and told them their whereabouts, but was interned herself before she had a chance to find if they had been evacuated safely.
Any one know of any new information coming to light here?
Love the board, I may waste considerable time here...

Welcome, deucelow!
I love that segment...what an inspiration. It was on Lifetime a few months ago and I was very excited to see it again. I haven't heard any updates or seen any on the board.

I know, we're maniacs for the show, but there were so many inspiring stories that UM did...and don't seem to get discussed much here. The story of the brave Czech girl risking her life for strangers from a strange land was really inspiring to me. Hope I eventually get to hear some good news about it.

Was this plane or anyone on it even identified let alone located? Has this outfit http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/ worked on the story?

That was a heartwarming story indeed. One of my favorites.
That being said even if she did escape, given where she lived and and the march of communism and the type of dictators that would inhabit Czechoslovakia. I think it may be next to impossible to find that woman. :(

She's not the one missing. She went on the show asking after the fate of the crew of the plane. This seemed like one of the most solvable to me, seeing as the crew was supposed to have survived the crash, and there can be only X number of planes missing in Czechoslovakia on a given date. Either they were located alive or they were not. If not, her story might give clues as to where an organization dedicated to recovering remains might start looking. Is there any supporting evidence for or against her story?

Dragging this up, but was there ever an update or confirmation of this woman's story?

That's what I'd like to know. If we only knew her name, perhaps some outfit specializing in WWII mysteries would have thoroughly checked her out.

Her name is Helen Elas. She was searching for the American soldiers, not vice-versa. :) ----> http://unsolvedmysteries.wikia.com/wiki/The_Search_of_Helen_Elas
Unsolved, unfortunately. I fear that the soldiers were discovered but I hope they made it through. Helen is a brave, brave lady for doing what she did.

I always thought that her wretched stepmother reported the soldiers. From what I remember she knew about them, somehow.
