I remember watching it. I think it was syndicated, so it was on different stations.

Shadoe Stevens was the announcer and also an on camera regular square later in the run with Joan Rivers and Jm J. Bullock. I also remember Shadoe's opening intro "And here's your host JOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHN DAVDISON!!"

HS was the syndication series.

Oh Yes! I definitely remember JD's version quite well! ;)

I remember the set, and of course the theme song and prize cues by Stormy Sacks, which reminds me a lot like Nelly and Kelly's song "Dilemma".

I thought JD did a good job on here, although he didn't quite have as much control over some of the celebs as Peter Marshall and Tom Bergeron did.

I think in the future GSN should get the rights to this version once they finish the last two seasons of Tom Bergeron's HS.

HS was the syndication series.

Yep, that's right!!!

John Davidson's Version did tape most of their shows at these locations:

NBC Studios (also the same place where Peter Marshall's version taped and aired their version at) 1986-early '87

ABC Television Center 1987-88

FOX Television Center 1988

Universal Studios 1988-89

Which station used to show it? Repeats aired on cable's USA Network from 1989 to 1993. It's a shame GSN hasn't shown it yet... Yet they stopped showing P.M.'s version and they're now only showing Tom Bergeron's version.

Now it's not on at all . They're only showing it now in syndication on G.S.N.

Has anyone know remembered watching Hollywood Squares hosted by John Davidson in the 1980s?

I remember the 80's version of "Squares". It was hosted by former singer and actor John Davidson (from "The Happiest Millionaire").

Which station used to show it?

It was on WPIX-TV back in around 1988 or so. I was 10 at the time I used to watch it. USA already aired reruns for a year. GSN does not have the right to air. The Bergeron-era "Hollywood Squares" from 1998-2004 is on GSN. Peter Marshall's original "Squares" was on the former Game Show Network back in 2002 where they used to air just the weekly syndicated nighttime version for about a year, not the NBC daytime version. The NBC version was lost, destroyed or accidentally erased.

As was the case for many of NBC's pre-1978 daytime GS's.

However, they also aired the eps. from the 1968 short-lived prime-time edition as well!
