View Full Version : Pointless Episodes (borrowed from Irene, who borrowed it from...)

I would say that among the most pointless Happy Days episodes are:

The one where Potsie sings "pumps your blood." Is this a sitcom or an afterschool special??

The Valentines Day musical episode. I hate musicals.

Fonzie Vs. Melvin Scratch (The Devil) for Chachi's soul. If I were Fonzie, I would've let him just take it. We would have been spared Joanie Loves Chachi.

The Thanksgiving episode where they played the pilgrims and, if memory serves me correct, was also a musical episode. Most of the post-Richie, post-season seven episodes are pretty bad, but this one was one of the worst.

The one where Tom Hanks played the guy who carried a boyhood grudge against Fonzie. This guy belonged in a mental institution. It was beyond silly.

The one where Fonzie gets his tonsils out and has to spend Halloween in the children's ward. An excuse for cuteness and to show how sensitive Fonzie is??

The one where an old lady puts a curse on Al. Al as the central character of a storyline??? Did he ever tell you about Rosa Coletti??

Not all HD episodes were gems, but these were among the very worst.

Thanks to Irene, who inspired this thread in another forum by borrowing it from someone in another forum...;)

Why thanx to you Dr. Thong...btw, you inspired me to buy myself more thong underwear today!!!!!! LOL:lol:

You know what? Those episodes are the ones I would have picked. Another I would add if I may, would be the Westward Ho when the family goes to save Marion's uncle's dude ranch. Sooooooooo stupid!!!!!!!!

I love the "spare us from Joanie loves Chachi" comment..."Go ahead, take his stupid ass...and drop him in the seventies where he really belongs!!!!"

That Potsie Pump Your blood, that was so horrendously awful. I can't stand it!!!

I hated the one where Richie lies to Lori Beth abt patrolling with the police so he could go out with a cheerleader. Not because I felt sorry for Lori Beth. I couldn't stand the character. That is not a person I imagined Richie to be in love with. And it was boring.

I did, because

1. Audrey Landers played Ralph's girfriend, Kitty - she was hot back in those days.

and

2. Because the look on Ralph's face went he went down after being clobbered was priceless.;)

Aside from that, yeah it was a pretty pointless episode. Just an excuse to give Donny Most more screen time.

It wasn't a musical episode (the Thanksgiving show), and it wasn't a post-Richie episode.

I stand corrected. Still not one of my favorites, though.

HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE!!!

I think that the episode "Welcome To My Nightmare" was pretty pointless and stupid too. The whole idea of "draining" the Fonz's cool was kinda dumb lol, but that's maybe what it was supposed to be.

i hate that ep where richie brings home that beatnik girl from the movies and while i usailly liked the musical eps i cant stand that post richie ep where they sang immigration blues and think posative and also that one where fonzie is really po'd because folk music is becoming more popular than rock and roll they must have really been short on story ideas at that writers meeting

i hate that ep where richie brings home that beatnik girl from the movies

The deadline for the script was probably coming up shortly and the writers were going:

HEAD WRITER: Sh**! Do we have an idea for this week's show??

WRITER #1: Nope.

HEAD WRITER: The script is due in less than two days! We need something!!

WRITER #2: How about Richie brings home a pregnant beatnik girl??

HEAD WRITER: Perfect! Go write it!

WRITER #1: Wasn't that the idea you pitched last month and it got rejected because it was lame? Hey, why is it all of a sudden a good idea now?

HEAD WRITER: We need a script, that's why it's a good idea.

WRITER #2: Ahh, desperation...the mother of creativity.

BTW, the same girl who played the beatnik returned in season four as the wife of Fonzie's friend - and yes, once again, she was pregnant. Remember when she introduced herself as Louisa? Fonzie took one look at her belly and nervously replied "Hi, I'm Potsie Weber!" When she clarified she was his friend's wife, Fonzie was visibly relieved.

I didn't understand why Fonzie acted the way he did when I first saw the episode because I was ten years old.:D

I guess I am the only one who likes the beatnik episode. her name was Deidre. It was different.

As for her returning again as Louisa, I have a question...if she was married to Fonzie's friend, why didn't Fonzie know her when he saw her? It has been a long while since I seen the episode. Did his friend marry her and Fonzie had never met or seen her? I remember I watched Happy Days since it first aired, and when I seen this episode, I laughed so hard because Fonzie was scared that he had "fathered" her child!

I loved Happy Days as a kid, but now I realize they did have a lot of ridiculous episodes. As a kid, I didn't like the first two seasons as well as the later seasons. But now the first two are my favorites.

I would say my least favorites with Ritchie are the one in which he cheats on Lori Beth and flirts with a baton twirler. I also can't stand the one in which Al finally gets a date with a meter maid and she dumps him. Its a very painful experience and its hard to watch someone else go through that. Besides the ones with Tom Hanks and the one where Fonzie buys a 55 chevy and a ghost visits I don't care much for many of the post Ritchie episodes. Some of the people who came later are such nerds.

There was the episode where Al decided to participate in the civil rights march. Nothing wrong with that, but why all of a sudden did Al get this desire to help out?? It wasn't consistent with the tone of Happy Days. I'm not faulting Al's intentions, which were certainly noble, but I question why the HD writers decided to go this route creatively.

Aside from the episode where Richie participated in Stevenson's election campaign, that's about as close to political as the show got.

In those episodes where Richie is on the phone, they should have had Ron Howard seen on the other side of the telephone exchange, talking with whomever was calling him.

Good point. However, an off-camera character doesn't have to be paid and doesn't require the actor's participation. Ron had moved on and it was a cheesy gimmick to have "Richie" call as a means of having him "on the show."

Another cheesy gimmicky episode was the episode where Richie married Lori Beth with Fonzie as a stand-in. Ummm, she couldn't have waited until he came back or got leave?? Okay, so Fonzie subs for Richie and somehow, Richie gets some leave so they can "honeymoon." Okay, he can't get time off for his own wedding, one of the most important events of his life, but he manages to meet Lori Beth (off-camera, of course) somewhere for a quickie so that Richie Jr. can be spawned.

Were it not for the fact that Richie Jr. had red hair, I'd swear that Fonzie filled in on the honeymoon as well. I still have my suspicions, but anyway...

As for the episode where Fonzie got shot in the butt, it must've been a much later episode. I remember all of the episodes through season seven, but I've tried to forget the ones that came afterwards.

This thread lives!!
