...would any of them intimidate you?

Nah, that would be so sweet though, if there were cops like that in real life.

Maybe I'd be a little intimidated by Smitty. Hoppy, no way!! I'd just be laughing at his attempt to talk slang. "OK, buster, we're going to have to rock now." "ROLL!!"

Hoppy: OK, you're going to the clunk, pal.
Smitty: CLINK!!!

They have to be the coolest Cops on TV. No, they wouldn't intimidate me at all.

Yeah, they were cool cops - they probably would've fit right in on Barney Miller!!

Ironically, Gregory Sierra (:eyes:) got to arrest Howard Platt in an early episode of Barney Miller. S&S fans know them better as Julio and Hoppy.

Gregory Sierra and Hal Williams (Smitty) also appeared together in one of the last Gunsmoke episodes (though they were adversaries) - entitled "Hard Labor".

They were great cops- I actually liked the first white cop (Swanny- played by actor/director Noam Pitlik) a little better than Hoppy. He was funnier to me, more like a wanna-be Dragnet type of character and not so simple-minded. lol.

^ I always found it cool that both Noam Pitlik and Howard Platt had recurring roles on the Bob Newhart Show - as Mr. Gianelli and Dr. Phil Newman, respectively.

Smitty and Hoppy would be right at home on Car 54.

I used to love it when Hoppy would use all the legal police talk and Fred and Lamont would look confused, than Smitty would translate in street talk so they would know what Hoppy was talking about lol.

That was cool. I liked both of those characters on the Bob Newhart Show, but Howard Platt's character was a REAL jerk on there-lol. I remember he was the doctor in the building who was always stabbing everyone in the back (especially Carol). Come to think of it, Mr. Gianelli (Pitlik) wasn't exactly a nice guy either-LOL.

Yes, Dr. Phil Newman was the SUPREMELY egotistical plastic surgeon. Anytime he and Dr. Tupperman were in a scene together was great fun. Of course, Mr. Gianelli's fights with Mr. Peterson were classic, too.

Perfect! I never thought about that before but you're right. I first saw car 54 back when it was on Nick at Nite years ago. Great show and they would have added to the cast perfectly.

Gregory Sierra and Howard Platt shared the screen once more in an episode of Gregory's short-lived series A.E.S. Hudson Street. Howard Platt played a patient who wasn't really sick but refused to leave until Gregory Sierra's doctor character and his nurse (Rosana Soto) made up a routine about giving the guy colonics and other gross things to scare him off. It was a funny moment.
